Iootorishimeryui stone and clay

**DRAFT - edit for flow and clarity   Storyteller xxccxx overheard in the Izakaya near Music Town   Okay, bear with me. I've got a story, maybe a little convoluted, could probably be made into a diagram or something, I could probably draw it here in the sand, but it makes for legendary story.   Over there, you see that island? Right, past that island, on the other side of it lies another island. There's a volcano...well there was a volcano there, then it exploded.   Wait, no, that's not how to start this... Hand me a drink, let me think for a moment, I'm excited to tell this story, it encompasses so much in so little...   okay... On the island of Iootorishimeryui there was a volcano. At the time, it was an active volcano with occasional lava flows and beautiful night displays. There used to be a 'tunnel' to there from the Natural World but its been closed off since after the eruption.   But I'm getting ahead.   This volcano was called Tui-shima Dake or 'Sulfur Peak'. At least that's what they called it to keep Outsiders away...until Outsiders could actually use sulfur, but...maybe I'll get to that.   Anyway, while the volcano was active, across the island was another volcano that was inactive. between these two were a special mountain formation with unknown, misunderstood properties. While the volcano was active, some special touched mage guy thought the stone there had special properties. he proved it by casting a couple of spells and he found that the stone could hold magic properties and to be expended.   You know how some talismans and charms are one use, maybe two? This mage guy found that this stone could hold the charm magic almost indefinitely. I saw almost because, well, he died, not because of the stone, something else killed him, barbarians or worgs or something.   anyway he figured this out about the rock there, told somebody, then another, next thing you know the Mage Guild has a remote campus on site at the island. it wasn't inhabited before this.   they found a camp its told, somebody was shipwrecked or something, skeleton in a cave and crap.   so the campus is set up and they start working the stone, this is where out netsuke came from that we use, especially the Travelers and Envoys...and the Expeditionary guys. Protection and stuff.   So they set up a mini manufacturing, nabbed a couple of artisans to live on the island and craft the stone on site because they found that taking stone form the island and charming it somewhere else didn't work at all, it had to be there for the spell to stick.   so there they are making netsuke charms and such then BOOM the island explodes.   they heard it over here, we're hundreds of km away, well, over 100km anyway. some people even claim to have seen the fireball lava rain that happened. took a minute to make it to the king that something was up, mostly I hear it came from the Natural Realm, they found one of their caves collapsed and knew where it went.   There was only 1 survivor from that, 1372 people died. the guy ho was left, guess wo it was?   yup, the mage guy. he was up on the southern peak doing a ritual to the moon when it all went down. he wasn't unhurt though, broke one of his arms and a leg too. explosion blew him off the cliff and into the ocean. this guy is so hardcore he made it back to shore and climbed up the cliff trails! fkn hard core this dude. he got up there and found nobody around. he was shyt for healing magic so he did his best. his arm had a strange bend to it an his leg, he needed a cane/crutch they say, it was shorter because the bone didn't set right.   kind gross really, I cant imagine, I woulda drown man, no way swim half broken back and then crawl 100m up a dirt/gravel trail.   hard core.   they say it was a week until they got there and found him. he was hungry and broken, but hard core mage dude was high in spirits, but then so sad he had found all this and these people died because of his discovery. he ended up working with the king and helping all the families who had lost someone, either getting them better jobs or whatever he could do.   anyway, after a bit, they ended up going back to the island at his request. this hard core mage guy went back! he was determined to make it better, and he figured, you know, volcano is blown, no more risk, lets go back and start again but now safer.   but he couldn't get the magic to work. they'd try the stone but something was off. he accidentally figured out taking the soil and making a clay with it.   it keeps the magic   magic from the hard core mage dude.
