The Union of Life and Death Myth in Ifiron | World Anvil

The Union of Life and Death

You are a gift, neatly packaged
Handmade by the Father of the Suns
Never opened, you journey through life
The Father to greet you as you awake
The Mother to tuck you to sleep
Each day, each night
A child to both
Though sired by neither
The Father has made uncountable gifts
Created by morning
Delivered by evening
The Mother she greets them
As they lie in wait
For the Mother to take them
And realize their fate.

Cultural Reception

Often this poem is seen as a way to feel more content with the idea of death and discourages persuits of immortality in order to maintain the bond between Life and Death.   There have been several takes on what the poem can mean. One such way is that since each of us are gifts we have purpose, perhaps that purpose is not known until the embrace of death. Another interpretation is that since everyone are gifts, that individually there is nothing truly unique and that this is an endless cycle.
