Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

(see Elves)

Ecology and Habitats

Sun Elves thrive in locations that see lots of sunlight. They prefer tropical locations. While they can survive in the desert it is not preferred.

Biological Cycle

Sun Elves are particularly sensitive to the astral events regarding the Sun. If a Sun Elf cannot see the sun for a period of time over 24 hours, they feel their energy beginning to drain from their bodies similar to a form of depression.   During a Solar Eclipse, or The Darkening in their tongue, their magic becomes far weaker. This can be remedied with a casting of the daylight spell.   It is because of this that many Sun Elves treasure driftglobes because of their ability to cast the daylight spell using a command word.

Additional Information

Social Structure

In the Elves historical narrative (see Elves) the Sun Elves were the firstborn of Aureal. As the firstborn, they believe they are responsible for the protection of the world. Their social structure is built around this belief.   At around the age of 10, Sun Elves are expected to take up a job that assists society in some way. Many will keep this job until their late 50's as they transition into a job that prepares them for their role in society. This first job gives them time to reflect and discover how their talents are best suited. Once this has been discovered they work for about a century to hone their skills. Around their 150th birthday, they are considered full adults. Until this time, Sun Elves are hesitant to trust their expertise and experience.   Respect among Sun Elves is based on their feats. These feats are only recognized based on how it has benefitted society. The most respected positions are those of guards and soldiers as the protectors of society. Primary Sun Elf societies are meritocracies.

Naming Traditions

When Sun Elves are born they are given a child name. When they become an adult they then choose an adult name.   Sun Elves do not have surnames, but rather a title. When they become an adult they are given a title based on their accomplishments and the role they have chosen in life. An example of this would be Tarron of the Anvil, or Neia of the Sword. They can become elaborate titles based on specialties and the Sun Elf granted this name may suggest alterations.   Significant events may also be recorded as part of their title. For instance, a well-respected general could have the full name of Myrrh of the Silver Blade, Defender at the Battle of Highkeep.

To a Sun Elf, your accomplishments mean more than your appearance. A Sun Elf with several titles are seen more highly. How a Sun Elf holds themselves in conversation when talking about their own accomplishments is also an indication of beauty. One that is boastful and arrogant are seen as less attractive than one that is humble.
