Common Dress code

For the most part Dwarves have lived off the mountains and the mines. Dwarven cloth is rough and sturdy but rarely fine. Dwarves instead take more pride in armors and jewels for personal decoration. Many a dwarven king has worn a battle-stained leather jerkin beneath a crown of gold and gems the rival of any surface nation. One’s armor and weapons are the primary visual distinction of wealth and status. Crafted sigils and runes adorn even a simple dwarf has his craftsmen tools engraved with meaning. Guards and soldiers from the different clans all have unique armors that identify them. Each clan’s symbol is worked into helm and shield. It is not uncommon to see soldier with boar tusks in a helmet. The distinction tends to be by clan versus profession. Once’s tools can identify one’s profession but the decoration is unique to the clan.

Coming of Age Rites

In dwarven society a dwarf is not considered an adult until they master a craft. There are Dwarves who die of old age never mastering a craft and are seen as children by society and law. The ways of claiming adulthood vary and do not always focus on the creation of a masterpiece. A soldier may prove himself a master of the axe by showing himself in battle. A priest may become a master of the divine and a monk may show himself a master of himself.

Funerary and Memorial customs

The Dwarves place a great amount of respect toward elders and heroes of legend. The great and honored dead are entombed forever in great mausoleums deep beneath the earth. It is a great honor to be buried with the great dead and perhaps the greatest shame to have your remains burnt and scattered to the winds. Different crypts exist for different status of dwarf. The lowliest craftsmen still hope to one day make a decent crypt for himself. In addition, Dwarves often a buried with their clans and is some semblance of what they were know for. Warriors and shield Dwarves are often entombed weapons in hand ready to continue the fight.
