King's Mages
Before the Founding, when the halflings were still slaves of Eard, all halflings with magic were killed in fear that their power could allow them to lead an uprising. Due to this, magic is still rare in Baelden, and is greatly feared by the general population.
In order to keep mages safe, they're put into a compound on the outskirts of Baelden City when they're children and raised to serve of the Baelish royal family. These magic users make up the King's Mages. The only exceptions are those who are gifted in druid magic, who are raised by the Henoeds in service to The Spirits.
The King's Mages are raised to be experts in offensive magics and standard weaponry, with only some with certain aptitude focussed on shielding and healing magics. They're one of Baelden's main forms of defence to the crown, both as guards and a military unit. They answer to no one except their superiors and members of the royal family.
