Grand Feast of Strength
Eat well Hoknath, and enjoy your last night as Uk'lo. Tomorrow I will show the Kaznodan just how weak you have become.
Observance
With the nature of the Uk'rotal being a massive melee, everyone who participates makes sure they consume an enormous amount of meat and bread in order to last for several hours the following day. With most adults participating in the event, this means the amount of food consumed by the tribe on the night of the feast nearly doubles that of a normal day. In addition to being a practical way to maintain one's strength, this feast is also an opportunity to show off to the neighboring tribes, whose own Uk'los will be present at both the feast and Uk'rotal.
Since the timing of the feast depends on both if and when a challenge is issued and agreed upon, and the phases of Lor, the amount of time available to prepare for the feast is usually entirely unpredictable. When a full Lor is still over a month out most able-bodied adults spend their time hunting. Any game obtained during the first few weeks is prepared and salted or buried in the snow if possible. Meat from successful hunts in the final few days leading up to the feast is prepared and eaten fresh, and in some cases eaten raw. Should the tribe decide there isn't enough time to hunt for a sufficiently large feast, they may choose to raid the local human towns to supplement their own stockpiles.
