Wolfsbane

Agathyrsi Herb Garden

"The werewolves ravaged their way through Cluj-Napoca, killing everyone. Were it not for Baron Cel Mare and his dragoons, I fear all would be lost to the beasts."

The Plant

Wolfsbane is a flowering plant that grows and blooms in spring and summer then dies off in autumn and winter, repeating this year after year. Most flowers are blue though there is a less common yellow flower. The grow in the mountains and in large fields if in a mountain meadow. No matter the color, wolfsbane flowers give off a scent that burns the noses of a werewolf, something that often will keep them at bay or at least send them looking elsewhere to stir up trouble.

The Poison

The roots and tubers of the wolfsbane contain a poisonous oil. This poison is most often used to poison baits to kill wolves and other predators, hence its name. It can be placed on the tips of arrows, blades, and even bullets with the degree of potency being how much is coated onto the weapon.
"That makes my news all the more alarming. Howls were heard in the woodlands. Lots of howls."

Medicine

Only the Agathyrsi dare to use Wolfsbane as a medicine for respitory ailments.   It is very effective but great care must be taken to not use too much as this could kill the patient. Despite its dangers many swear by its effectiveness.   A weak wolfsbane tea on a cold wintry day is often drink as a preventative to keep the coughs and wheezes at bay.

"That's terrible news! I will get word out for wolfsbane to be gathered in from the fields at once! Sadly, my fields are too small for everyone to have wolfsbane potpourri."

"I saw two wild meadows of wolfsbane on my ride. I will lead folks to harvest them!"

Yellow Wolfsbane

by Hans
The rarer yellow flowered wolfsbane can be used just like the blue wolfsbane but it can do even more. It can poison werewolves, creates that can only be killed by silver.   Yellow Wolfsbane, when applied to a weapon or eaten by a werewolf, will send the monster into a deep sleep. This sleep is short, lasting no longer than a quarter hour but more than enough time to flee to safety or to dispatch the werewolf.   Goblin Chirugeons spend a good bit of their time planting Yellow Wolfsbane in secret wild places in hopes of preventing the werewolves from finding and destroying them. Every autumn, the chirugeons gather only half of each plants roots and tubers so it will live to grow and bloom come spring.

I like how your comments show the story around the plant, while the yellow variety explained in the sidebar adds explanation to the story as well.
