Terror In The Trees

Hoia Forest covers the eastern third of Cluj County. Woodsmen dare to collect their wood from the forest edge but only during the bright light of a sunny day. More than one tale is told of folks going deeper into the woods and never coming back out. At night howls with more potency that those of a wolf echo. Townsfolk and villagers living near the forest will gather into their homes then lock their doors and windows up tight when the howls sound.
There are no roads through the forest where only trails cut narrow pathways for its denizens to travel. Whenever a governor or trading company scoffs at the local fears and tries to build a road through, their work crews end up torn apart and dead. Within Hoia many paths run allowing the mosnters living within it to travel about with ease.

Denizens

Werewolves

The howls in the night do not come from wolves. Or at least, not from the animals known as wolves. These are the howls of werewolves. These are humans who have chosen to wear the magical hide of a Darkan Wolf. These hides were magically forged to bind the soul of a Darkan Wolf to its own skin thus granting the wearer the powers of a wolf and and ability to change into a monstrous form that is half-human and half-wolf at will.
Five packs live within Hoia, each with its own territory: North Pack, East Pack, South Pack, West Pack, and Prime Pack. The central, or Prime, part of the forest is the most primal and ancient part and is held by the strongest pack. It is the Prime Pack that ensures no one blockades the paths that run between and through all the territories.

Goblins

Goblins also live inside Hoia Forest, building treehouse villages where they and their mighty fox bat steeds live above the deadly werewolves. Short little folk, goblins serve as the traders and couriers amongst the monsters. It is they who venture the farthest often traveling beyong the forest and Cluj County. Still, Hoia Forest is what they consider to be their homeland as its where the Undertrees Caves stand. These caves are where the fox bats still live free and wild.
