Denalsian Duels

Also known in lower circles as 'Magic Twelve Ball', Denalsian Duels, or 'Nadu', is by far the most popular sport on Altemos. Featuring anywhere between 4 and 24 players and as many wooden balls split between two to six teams, the goal is to protect one's own balls from destruction, while simultaneously destroying those of one's opponents.   While rules change by locale, the one universal law is that no ball may be touched by physical means: Nalistic Magic is the only thing that can be used to manipulate any ball. This leads to spectacular displays of Threading usually only seen in the fiercest of battles or true duels, as teams wreathe their own balls in protective sheathes while lashing out with blinding staves, flaming whips, and snakes of liquid metal to destroy their opponents'.

History

Records show the first official matches of Nadu taking place in the early Second Era, though the historians of Sol Feylaas swear up and down that the game was invented some time in the prior two thousand years of the Age of Madness, gaining popularity with the Feylasi even as their Old Fey brethren were still transforming to join them.   Nadu has always had a number of balls equal to the number of players on the field. That player count, however, has fluctuated greatly through the ages, dependent as well on location. Competitions in smaller counties or countrysides may only field 2 to 4 players per team. On the other side of the spectrum, the ancient seven city-states of the Feylasi would field as many as 50 to 100 players per team in massive - and often bloody - two to four team free-for-alls. In more recent times, the team size has standardized down to six players per team, leading to its popular, widespread moniker of Magic Twelve Ball.
