The Layered Forest
Geography
The Layered Forest can be divided into two halves, the above ground section and the underground section. Going from one to the other is not a simple task. There are sizable holes in the ground that allow for birds to fly between the two levels, but there is no way for any other creature to freely move between the sections of the forest. Some trees are so tall that they start in the underground and continue well above the surface.
The upper level can be accessed from Lunis, while the entrance to the lower level is in Dravala. The Arboran people live within the lower level and stick to themselves for the most part.
Ecosystem Cycles
The underground level is darker in winter as a result of the trees losing their leaves, including the ones whose leaves glow in the darkness.
Localized Phenomena
The lower layer of the forest has both nocturnal and diurnal animals active at the same time, day and night are not meaningful distinctions there.
Fauna & Flora
A variety of plants that emit light can be found on both levels of the forest, though they are more numerous in the lower level. While the population of birds remains the same between floors, most other animals are only found on one level. Crystals that glow with light can also be found on the walls of the cavern that houses the lower level of the forest.
