Elves

While elves are the most populace species on the continent, they are the least magical, overshadowed by both demons and angels. This made them comparatively easy for the demons to oppress.   Officially, the elves were not ruled by demons. However, the constant war between the demons and angels placed elves in the center. In order to obtain some sort of security among the warring species, the elves agreed to send breeders for the demons and in exchange, the demons promised to protect the elves from harm.   Sadly, this resulted in the elves become extremely subordinate to demons and effectively living under their rule despite no formal conquest.   After the war ended, the hybrids who resulted from the demon-elf mating returned to their respective clans and integrated into their respective societies. Demons fully turned on the elves and officially conquered them, which led directly the hybrid revolt.   At the end of the revolt, the hybrids of each clan fought for dominance and the elves were split into an internal hierarchy based on where their hybrid representative/leader had placed in that battle.   Currently, the top clan is the Lethier, with their hybrid leader Daervulen Bahrlethier acting as Luzhasvumekt of the new nation.

Naming Traditions

Family names

Family names come from one's clan and are generally simply the clan name itself. Those who have done significant service or disservice to the clan have prefixes attached to the clan name to denote these acts.   Example: Daervulen Bahrlethier- 'bah' is 'father' in elvish and 'b̧uř' is 'monster' in demonic. 'Bahr' is a combination of both words and used to mean both a leader of the clan, thus 'father'. During the revolt, the demons gave him the pejorative nickname 'he b̧uř' or 'that monster'. Daervulen found this funny and incorporated it into his name.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Elves share a common language, Elvish, but each clan uses a slightly different dialect. All are able to understand one another. However, due to accents and varying slang, there is sometimes confusion.

Major organizations

Currently, there are six major elven clans. Others are considered too small to have any sort of relevance and often are subdivisions of overarching clans. A semi-formal hierarchy was established among them after the hybrid battle for dominance and the place of each clan is directly related to their most accomplished hybrid member's position that fight, regardless of whether or not they eventually went into government.

Lethier

The Lethier are currently the highest ranked of the clans due to Daervulen Bahrlethier's victory in the hybrid fight and his subsequent position as the luzhasvumekt.   Before the revolt, the Lethier lived at the outer edges of the demonic kingdom, on the far western side of what was once entirely controlled by elves. While they were close to the sea, they had no direct border with it and instead turned their expertise inland, becoming extremely good as long distance hunters and purveyors of animal based goods. Their main exports were leather products, such as armor and clothing. Along with this, they were known for their spearman-ship as their main form of combat. Swords were less used, but still prevalent.   After the demonic conquest, demons pressed them to produce armor for them, along with luxury items, sometimes stealing skilled artisans and forcing them to work. At first, they were distrusting of hybrids due to their part in assuring the demons' rule. However, the Bahlethier at the time allowed a few of their ancestry to stay on the outskirts of the clan. Over the years of demonic rule, they became more accepting of hybrids.   With the ascension of Daervulen to leadership, the took in more hybrids and were the first clan to revolt against the demons. They made up the bulk of the first forces and they remained throughout the revolt.   When victory had been attained, they backed their leader in the hybrid fight and subsequently obtained a high position for themselves among the elves as the first to revolt and as the clan who had produced the most accomplished hybrid. Their place within the hierarchy affords them certain privileges, similar to a minor noble house, with other clans deferring to them on important elven matters, and their leather goods are highly sought after.

Hirei

Despite their hybrid candidate, Neias Udûmhirei's, long list of accomplishments as the commander of the revolt's shock troops and spy network, the Hirei are the lowest clan among the elves due to his placement in the hybrid fight. They are unaware the he threw the fight so as not to be involved in any government work. There are currently many mixed feelings on this result among members of the clan. Some hate him for his loss and their subesquent position while others see him as a war hero whose skills did not lend themselves to open combat.   Before the revolt, the Hirei were mainly known for their farming. They produced animal good and meats that were greatly valued among the clans. This allowed them to accumulate a vast amount of wealth and become a cenral hub for agricultural educatoin. Other clans sent their farmers and ranchers to the Hirei for training whenever possible.   After the conquest, many of their top innovators in farming were held hostage by their demonic rules and large farms confiscated, turning into state property in order to produce more food for the kingdom, rather than the clan selling their wares as they had before. They took in some hybrids descended from their line as laborers or underground runners to aid other clans.   Hearing of the revolt, the leader charged Neias Udûmhirei with determining the situation and current state, then, upon his recommendaton, decided to join the fight. They became the third clan to enter into the resistance army.   After the revolution, the shock troops and most of the Hirei backed Neias for leader despite his reluctance. Upon his loss to Daervulen, some turned their back on him, thinking him too weak, while others simply decided that his stealth skills were unsuited for single combat. Regardless, the outcome led to the Hirei becoming the lowest ranked clan among the elves. Despite the return of their lands, they have not yet recovered and there is considerable split among their people as to whether to return to complete independence or accept contracts from the new government, with some large farms already taking the later. This disagreement has begun to split the clan.
