Gundrir Rosenthal

Gundrir Rosenthal was a wizard in the High Scholegia of Regenne. As part of the council, he had the earliest warnings when the Three Heroes failed, and had some idea what to expect from the backlash of Sibriil's failed ritual. Fearing that Sibriil would take spiteful revenge on the village where the heroes had first met (and where Gundrir had met them himself that same day), he abandoned his post in Regenne and fled to that village. He crash landed at the foot of the great tree there, and made a hasty sacrifice to the ancient plant.
Expending the last drop of magic he had, he inscribed a spell circle and offered his life to the tree. It accepted, piercing his body and mind with roots, then lifted the village up with it just as the devastating wave of corrupt nature magic tore through the land. His remains still lie within the roots under the town, which was later named after Gundrir in thanks of his sacrifice.
