Blue/Black Scale Pen

Mechanics & Inner Workings

On the surface, this is just a black pen (granted, a very nice black pen - the perfect thickness and flow quality - in an age when writing utensils are becoming rarer and rarer), but it has a special authorization feature that changes the ink to blue on official Homeland State Authority documents.  It also has a scale feature which allows agents to write secret hidden messages in an invisible ink, which can then be decoded by other agents using their own pens to read in blue verified ink.  The pen has a black body, with a gold authentication ring in the middle that reads the user's fingerprints (you can only send verified messages with your own pen).  It is six inches long, with a tapered body that is .75 inches round at its widest middle point.  Its cap has a gold metal loop that can be hooked onto a utility belt for ease of use.

Significance

The ability to have messages verified by specific agents (and not enemies of the state) has become very important in the passing of information in the allegiance agency.  As Homeland State Authority grew, it's ability to transmit secret information (especially in an age of computer hackers, as paper messages this way cannot be hacked) has become very important to the running of this operation.
