The Frozen Sea

The northern shores of The Frigid Waste give way to vast stretch of ice fields and glacial masses that make up the Frozen Sea which acts to connect the Frigid Waste with the Northern Nexus and separate the eastern and western seas. The Frozen Sea is a dark icy expanse of glacial fields which crack, calve, and up heave on a near constant basis, the main surface of the sea is constantly moving in one way or another. Great fissures and cavernous ravines scar across the entirety of the sea, large glacial mountains formed into strange twisted shapes and arches eroded by the ever present arctic winds that whip across the sea. The landscape of this sea is only ever illuminated by the many auroras that shine from the northern nexus, casting great hues of purples, blues and greens upon the icy formations of the frozen sea. The sun does not shine here and has not shown here for a very long time, the thick cloud cover that rotates around the nexus is far too thick and powerful for even the most furious sunlight to shine through. Both the Eastern and Western edges of the sea are a large array of high ice shelves and cliffs which stand sentinel over the flowing and beating waves of the seas beyond. The creatures that dwell with these icy fields are all magical in origin and it is said that another darker power dwells here as well, a lich of a bygone age who sequesters himself in a crumbling tower of ice surrounded by a large glacial mountain range near the northern shore just before the nexus.

Geography

The northern frozen shores of the Frigid Waste is home to a small stretch of frozen waves which mark the entrance to the frozen sea the far northern sea of the Howllands which acts as both a bridge to the northern nexus and a wall between the eastern and western seas of the world. Moving further north into the southern ice fields of the sea is a place of the most activity within the frozen sea, here ice sheets fracture and crack forming deep fissures and cavernous ravines to which many believe there is no bottom. It is here where the entrances to the tunnels beneath the ice can be found, many care found in the sides of these ravines but some pop up from cave in or in the side of raised glacier formations. The tunnels and caverns below make a complex labyrinth of overlapping tunnels flooded caverns, bottomless ravines, and dead ends. They are largely unexplored and are the more perilous parts of the sea as cave ins are frequent and caves can be split in two at any moment. Even further north toward the center portion of the sea is the glacial straight a long patch of glacier mountains and snow banks that act as the main holding structure for the sea itself, here great mountains of ice and glaciers stand in twisted solitude ever eroded by the arctic winds that wail across the icy sea. This place is the least active region within the frozen sea and is also the home to the bulk of the creatures that dwell within it. The farthest northern reaches of the sea and subsequently its northern shore are a complete mystery to all the races of the Howllands, though mad men who claim they have been there tell of it being a place of almost total cold, with mountains of pure packed snow and deep sinkholes in the ice that moan and howl as the wind sweeps across their openings. It is a place only illuminated by the auroras of the nexus and where no fire can burn, the ice sheets that make up its base are of the hardest and most compacted ice in the world, harder than stone. The also tell of great snow beasts and evil creatures that dwell there, and of a great white winged creature that rules over the land and serves as the Nexuses protector.

Fauna & Flora

The apex predator of this region is a species of giant spider made of what can only be assumed as ice. They stalk the glacial straight using their towering thin legs to reach across from glacial top to glacial top, they stand roughly twenty to twenty five feet in height with their long spindly legs making up most of their height. They dwell in large alcoves carved into the sides of the glacier mountains, they are marked by massive webs of crystal ice threads, the "webbing" is not sticky inherently but does have a very sharp chill to it causing any flesh that touches it to instantly freeze to its surface effectively trapping and restraining the creature. The ice spiders are known for their intelligence as well as the ferocity, they use their webs to make intricate traps which can ensnare multiple creatures at once. The most intelligent and feared creature within the frozen sea is a race of ice golems, they were formed when one of the magic auroras touches a glacial formation sprouting forth a jagged chiseled mass of ice and snow which became the first ice golems. They roam the northern lands of the frozen sea acting as guardians and watchers of the nexus, they sometimes venture down south for unknown reasons but quickly migrate back north after a period of time. It is said in ancient prophecies that the end of the world will be heralded by a wave of walking ice, whether these ice golems are what it is referring to has yet to be seen. The most common of the creature within the frozen sea is a race of fox that scavenges the tunnels of the southern ice flats, they have razor sharp and serrated claws that they use to climb along the steep inclines of the ravines and caverns of the ice sheets. Their main prey is a race of illusive and cunning rabbits that make their burrows in the great snow mounds and mountains of the southern glacial straight. Their fur is snow white in color and their eyes are an icy blue, it is unknown what they eat bu they have been known to travel great distances during the day only to retreat back to their burrows as night falls.
