The Great City of The Silver Marches

....the river rounded a bend and before us spread the Great City of The Silver Marches. As we approached the busy docks, I gazed up at the tall walls which surround the city. I looked again, this time with my mage sight and i could see the runes of warding shimmering upon the walls. Runes of strength and magical defense placed during the great battle against Yeth Radak's undead hordes..Excerpt from The Great Cities of the Northern Continent by historian Fael'thar Medroven

Demographics

Humans and animal Kin make up about 60% of the city's population in an even mix. Elves about 30% and Dwarves about 10%. There is a very small population of Golems, less than 1%. The Guilds employ the majority of people working in the city. The army and city watch are ran by the government and there are a few professions which are too small to have their own guilds. There is no ruling class within the Silver Marches, but as within most large cities there is a poor section of the populace. These live on the outskirts of the city within the shadow of the walls.

Government

The city is governed by a council of representatives from the cities guilds headed by an elected Primarch. The represented Guilds are the Merchants Guild, Farmers Guild, Maritime Guild, Crafters Guild, Healers Guild, Mage Guild and Lorekeepers Guild. Threddin Hoarfrost is the current Primarch.

Defences

The city sits on a raised piece of land in the middle of the deep shimar river making land attack difficult. The city is ringed by a large well built wall with towers spaced evenly along it. The walls have been carved with magical runes to strengthen and protect them from magical attack.

Infrastructure

The city has large grain stores and warehouses for trade goods. Busy docks to the north and south of the city facilitate river and sea trade. People come from far and wide to use the great libraries of the city. The main roads of the city are well maintained and link the various Guild quarters which house the main Guild halls and workshops.
