A Journey of Fire and Water

A syringe inserted into a slim arm. A boy’s body wedged in a pod. A face outside staring back, indistinct, but familiar somehow. Tears flowing, the face shrinking from view.
The boy lies alone. A drug coursing through his body demanding he succumb to its sweet promise of slumber and an end to the demonic images assaulting his mind. He fights, desperate to remember his last moment. I cannot… will not forget.
A planet shrouded in shadows smelling of death disappears from view. His will fails as sleep overcomes him and a darkness seeps in to outlast the passing of planets.

The child wakes confused and lost in a glass-encased capsule. All around him a blackness punctuated by glimmering dots of light. Thoughts return, I must remember… He floats in space. How?
A vast object soars into view, growing in size. His fractured mind recognises that a planet approaches but different from the one he left behind. This one feels alive - no stench of death. I remember now.
He starts burning; fire engulfing his legs, the pain unbearable. The capsule’s screen turns a blinding amber clawing at his eyes, the intense heat forces him to turn away, his mind close to blacking out…
…then bright daylight, the fires gone. His arm shoots up to shade his eyes. A pervading silence. Through the capsule’s window he sees a layer of whiteness ahead – a memory of his distant world, recognition of the nature before him. He bursts through the clouds to see a dark blue surface fast approaching. His stomach lurches at the gravitational forces ripping into his body...
…before he can react, the capsule crashes into this liquid floor, shocking his body with a violent thud… Another moment of peaceful serenity, darkness all around him.
Then the sense of burning returns, ripping through his legs. Fire raging the bottom half of the capsule burning intensely.…the capsule crashes with a force that shatters his body. He moans in crippling agony but knows he cannot die. You have a mission.
The smell of burning returns, ripping through his legs. Fire rages in the bottom half of the capsule, smoke overwhelming his senses but his broken body refuses to move. Death‘s embrace closes in but his will remains strong. He punches the glass screen demanding the light to surface. He repeats two words to himself. The only two that matter…
I live…I live…I live…
A fast-moving, bright object approaches his capsule… growing bigger. A white glowing mask stares at him from outside the capsule’s glass screen. The fires continue raging around the boy’s legs, the mask explodes into bright light. Water surrounds his capsule as he descends further into the murky depths of oblivion.
The mask shoots a red beam of light from its eye socket holes - ripping a hole into the capsule’s glass screen. Water bursts through the hole, submerging the fire. The boy glances at rainbow-coloured fishes playfully swimming outside the capsule.
The boy loses sight of the mask as it dives underneath the capsule, he breathes in water as the fear of burning becomes replaced with the fear of drowning. The fishes disappear from view as he ascends through the water. He loses sight of the mask as it dives underneath the capsule, he breathes in water as the fear of burning to death becomes replaced with the fear of drowning. The fishes disappear as he ascends through the water.
The capsule approaches light that grows in intensity, forcing the boy to squint. The capsule shudders, shaking the boy to his core, as it breaches the water’s embrace. It bobbles around several times before floating serenely on the water’s surface. The capsule approaches light that grows in intensity, forcing the boy to squint. The capsule shudders, as it breaches the water’s embrace. It bobbles around several times before floating motionless on the water’s surface. I live.
A moment of calm, bright sunlight barraging his face. His eyes adjust to see two men standing on his capsule - One with an eye patch and metallic leg, the other, silhouetted by the glaring sun. Eye-patch man smiles.
“Who are you?” The boy asks.
“You have not meet us, and this has not happened… yet, but in some way, has happened.” Eye-patch man says.
The glowing mask shoots from the sea to be caught by the silhouetted man; something familiar. The mask speaks without its mouth moving. “I have done what I can, he is safe… for now, but he’s losing too much. Spheros has been unlocked and is ready for activation. They are oblivious to the damage caused. We need to hurry.”
A girl screaming…somewhere in the background.
“I must release him now,” the mask says.
“What is happening to me?” the boy asks.
“Not everything is as it seems,” eye patch man begins, “What happened to Lendor is coming for Earth... Dominion approaches.” Eye patch man says.
“Dominion?”
“Spheros is hidden, you must release her. She will help you.” Eye patch man says.
The girl continues screaming…
