The Eight Magical Laws of All Universes in House of Aeon | World Anvil

Makesa

The Four Forces of Magic

The innate forces of magic that flow from Vah'rainn are known as Makesa among scholars. These forms of magic include Dura Imacla- Force of Creation, Dura Moet- Force of Change, Dura Ilmot- Force of the Unchanging, and Dura Mundila- Force of Natural Law. With the exception of Dura Mundila, which focuses on the rule of physical law without magical interference, these magics are highly unpredictable, chaotic and are nearly impossible to control once released.

The Elemental States of Being

Each of these elemental spheres of magic focuses on specific aspects of the physical world with little room for error and little deviation. The elements are still tied to the physical reality of everything touched by Vah'rainn and as such cannot break the rules of the natural law. The Magical Elemental manipulation is part of the natural process of all physical realms. Hot, Cold, Wet, and Dry are the broad categories of elemental states that make up the physical universes and realms.

Focuses of Magic

While the eight magical laws of the universes are the umbrella for all magical forces which act upon the material realms there are an almost infinite number of smaller schools of magic. Formed and crafted by individuals the universes over, depending on the struggles of their specific realms. Not all sub-classes of magic may be found in every realm, and not every realm has the same access to magic as one another. Some realms may also use a language of magic accessing and channeling the various aspects of it through word or written runes, yet others may experience magic as a free-flowing agent as alive as themselves which they can tap into and tame by touch or power of will. Such variations of magical access and ability within Realms appears to be as random as the flora and fauna in each realm. A list of the most commonly occurring focuses has been compiled by the scholars of The Chronicler.

  • Alchemy
  • Through the combination of various physical elements such as herbs and liquids combined by a magically influenced hand the creation of elixirs and potions that enhance or curse a body is fairly common among the realms. Each one as unique to its own realm as its inhabitants. Nearly all eight base forms of magic can be found in the use of Alchemy depending on the desired outcome.

  • Arcane
  • Traditional magical abilities which include the manipulation of elemental sources, conjuration, banishment, abjuration, evocation, and illusion. Nearly all eight base forms of magic can be found in the use of Arcane Magic depending on the desired outcome.

  • Astral Magic
  • The study of the cosmos and drawing power from the Sun, Moon, Stars, and the vastness of the Astral Plains. Those who employ this magical type can perfect various aspects of the study from gravity and cosmic chemical manipulation to the creation of Realm Gates and calling down the might of stars to bear upon their enemies. The main magical basis for Astral Magic can be found in Dura Ilmot, Dura Mundila, and of course Elemental Graist.

  • Geas
  • Though not the most common sub-form of magic known it is perhaps one of the most curious. A Geas is a magically binding pact between a subject and an external or internal force that commands the subject to do something or carry out a task. This can lead to the subject's downfall or bring them fortune depending on if they follow through on the pact. Most often this is seen in realms where the influence of the Spirits is abundant as spirits linger to give directives to the living but from time to time it is a self-imposed pact that binds magically by accident. It has been observed that sometimes the subject can receive power from the source of the Geas though this is not always the case.

  • Nature Magic
  • Nature Magic is a very broud classification of magical abilities all focused around Dura Moet and mixing the other forms of magic to create additional focuses. From shapeshifting, to healing, and even the formation and spread of plant life all fall under the theme of Nature Magic. Anything that manipulates and changes a state of being from one form to another can trace its roots through Dura Moet and thus Nature Magic. So varied and divers are the practeses and desired outcomes of Nature Magic that all threads of the other forms of magic can be found in them.

  • Necromancy
  • A dark magic that halts the natural changes that take place over a body by forcing the spirit of the original being back into its original body. Only a powerful practitioner of Dura Moet can hope to dispel such a feat of magical binding.

  • The act of Soul Binding is a cruel form of magic involving the understanding of a person's soul and their need to change and the locking powers of Dura Ilmot, an individual skilled in Soul Magic can bind someone's will to their own forcing them into a state of servitude without the ability to alter themselves. Another form of Soul Magic that has been observed is Soul Projection where the intangible side of a being might be pulled from or pushed out from the body.
