Galactic Translator

"While a GT is useful for day to day conversation, it will never replace truly understanding another race's language."
— Ambassador Kanoa
The galactic community has continued to grow throughout the centuries, with more cultures and factions rising since the end of the million year dark age. With this increase in lingual diversity only growing, the need for some kind of general purpose translator was grew in kind. After many years of study and technological advancement a prototype was made by a Simmeri scientist named Kanoa. While many in the galactic community were unsure as to its functionality, this collective doubt was all put to rest when the first Galactic Translator was able to allow for the formation of the Velani Federation. Since this time it has become a commonplace item in the day to day lives of galactic citizens, with only the most complex of languages requiring a more refined and expensive version.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The GT functions by having a constantly updating database of all known languages in the galaxy, combined with a powerful ai designed to do live translation for their user. The owner of the device simply has to put in what their own language is, place the auditory output receiver into their ear or other equivalent hearing organ, and have the Galactic Translator turned on to begin receiving live translation. The longer the ai of a GT has to process different languages, the better it becomes and the less time it requires to translate. Languages that are difficult to decipher will generally take longer until the galactic lingual database is fully updated with all aspects of the language in question. Languages not in the database can not be translated.

Significance

A Galactic Translator, while not required for most day to day lives, is important for those in contact with other races often. Planets with extremely diverse populations, such as the capital planet of Velani, nearly require all residents to have one at their side.
