Razorbacks

Write about a pirate of your world. What are they famous for?
(This grew into more than this prompt response. That version is here: Razorbacks.)
(My response is about a group, rather than a person. It also turned out to not quite focus on the pirates, but nevertheless...)
The Razorbacks pirate group had been around for a few decades before the destruction of the Orion space station. They stayed within a certain set of star systems that were not heavily populated anymore, and so took advantage of the smaller police presence.
A few weeks before the destruction, they attacked a mining camp of nomadic purple mages. The nomads had been mining on an asteroid at the time. These nomads used their mining as a way to support themselves.
(notes: These nomads are split off from the purple mages that live in Otherspace full time. They still talk to their sister group, but choose to live outside of Otherspace.)
The Razorbacks stole a lot of small purple magic crystals, and most of the nomads' explosive devices (which the nomads made with a precise amount of purple crystalline material).
However, since the two seed crystals were always heavily defended (and any mage of their number is a dangerous person to directly challenge), they did not try to steal either of the two seed crystals. That was fortunate, because that meant that the nomads could rebuild their mining business in roughly a year, but would have to shelter elsewhere for that time.
Finding shelter proved to be difficult.
The first place was tiny. Adding the fear of bringing the Razorbacks to their door to their fear of any fusion mages was just too much for them. They gave them a bit of food, but despite the nomads' offering to guard everyone, were still too frightened to try to help them.
The second place would have taken them, but they didn't have room. They were frightened of the Razorbacks, but were reassured by the offer to help defend the station.
They, however, sent several local settlements and stations messages requesting assistance. ahead to the Orion to make sure that they could and would take them. The captain reassured them that if he couldn't find anybody local enough to take them, that they would, despite how full they'd be.
(notes: The "2nd guys" are part of the rescue of the Orion by helping defend the convoy of fleeing people. They are nearer to the RLC's planet than the Orion. The convoy's leadership decided to try the RLC's planet, as the RLC was likely still at least partially habitable, and it would be easier to defend, being in the ground.)
The Orion responded by telling them that, due to a new addition, they would be able to give the nomads shelter. The new addition would be habitable within the week. It would not have some of the comforts of other parts of the station yet as a result, but it would be safe enough, and they could stay as long as they needed to.
The nomads accepted the offer and thanked the Orion's people. They again offered to help defend the station. The Orion leadership accepted this and thanked them.
Upon leaving, the "2nd guys" gave the nomads more than enough supplies to get to the Orion.
