Zee Gees

It is uncommon for many people to spend long periods of time in zero gravity, most orbital habitats have rotating living spaces or people live on planets. The population of Zee Gees, usually construction workers or other niche professions have created their own patois and cultural indicators to show solidarity with each other. The pervasive information and communication technology allows them to remain integrated with the rest of society. In the Honua system, where the accoutrements of civilization are still being built, the Zee Gee populations are developing their own identity faster than those in the Bliss system. The majority of the Zee Gee population lives at the refining and manufacturing facility orbiting March, the gas giant. This population consists mostly of gene edited individuals who are accustomed and acclimated to zero gravity operations, as this was part of the initial infrastructure setup in the Honua system for further development. The population, under the initial articles of settlement were supposed to be offered the chance to change back to normal phenotypes, but with the collapse of support the additional, gravitational, housing was never build and the systems to change phenotypes do not currently exist. Unless something changes in the near future, the Zee Gee population, critical to the survive of the settlements on Honua will not be able to set foot on the planet. No one is pleased by this situation, but the material limitations of the post-Bliss economy and the impending perihelion make the stable habitats of the March facilities seem preferable. The same limitations that prevents phenotype expression being changed for Zee Gee members, also prevents normal humans from adapting well to Zee Gee culture and norms. A normal person operating in zero gravity will take extra resources from the community in terms of anti-radiation and bone density manipulation medications. While this is generally not an onerous burden, it is a reminder that they are not truly part of the Zee Gee community.
