Nakhae Aquifer

The Nakhae Aquifer or Lowlake is a large series of underground lakes and streams located beneath the Marrow Desert in Nioa. Its presence beneath the sands creates subduction zones that forms the deadly Quicksand Seas that the Marrow Desert is famous for. Among surface dwellers, little is known about the ecology or geology of the Aquifer, other than that it receives most of its water from the ice melt of the Shanindar Mountain Range, it feeds the Tsewa Oasis, and that it is connected to the Underdark.

Among the denizens of the Underdark, the Nakhae Aquifer is called Lowlake. It is one of the largest bodies of water in the Underdark, and its various tributaries and basins provide moisture throughout much of the region's adjoining tunnels and chambers. Several intelligent Underdark species have established settlements on or near Lowlake, including the kuo-toa of Sloopbludop and the duergar of Gracklgrick.

Geography

Lowlake is not one single body of water but a vast series of flooded caverns, subterranean rivers, and underground springs. Though fed by fresh water springs, much of the aquifer is non-potable, largely in part due to the soil composition.
