Engineer

Brilliant mechanics and makers of clockwork and arcane mechanical devices.
Some see a pile of scrap, but an Engineer sees potential. For them, the world is a puzzle to unwind and they have the right tools for the job.
- Victor Alec, Chief Engineer of the Leviathan

In a world powered by gears, sail, steam, and a healthy dash of the arcane, the Engineer is the unsung hero. Quiet champions of invention with an uncanny insight to bend machinery to their imagination. You are one of these brilliant mechanics. For you, the events of 1712 ushered in a new age of wonder. But for you, the journey has only just started.

From labs hidden in ancient ruins to below decks of a ship at sea, you feel the change in the air. Miraculous and dangerous inventions are your stock in trade, no matter if they are rich with clockwork gears or laces with arcane symbols. You are at your best when you have to improvise. To take a bag of spare parts to patch up the ship, or craft a new device for your crew in the field. You are an Engineer. Master of machinery and mechanics, from arcane gears to clockwork, sail, and steam.

As an Engineer, you gain xp when you address challenges through clockwork innovation, invention, or the use of arcane machinery.

Your hands are your best tools, while your mind is your sharpest blade. Some may see closed doors, you see them as portals to unlock. With a wrench, tome of blueprints, and an insatiable curiosity, you build and innovate to redefine the limits of what’s possible.

    Engineer Special Abilities

    Arcane Mechanism
When incorporating arcane runes into a device, the device can function an additional hour without fuel or the device gains +1 quality or +1 effect. This can’t be performed on a device that already has arcane runes.

    Master Mechanic
Your expertise allows you to fix mechanical breakdowns with +1 speed.

    Miracle Worker
When creating a new device or improving an old one, gain +1d to your roll.

    Overdrive
You can push a machine past its limits. It gains +1 effect for extra output but on a 1-3, the machine breaks down and requires repairs.

    Enhanced Efficiency
Machines and devices you work on use 10% less fuel or energy.

    Adaptive Invention
Your inventions can be quickly modified to suit various needs on the fly. Your invention grants a +1d the next time it’s used. These adaptations cannot be “saved up”. The first +1d must be used before anther one is added.

    Elemental Infusion
You’re no stranger to the primal elements. When you integrate magical elemental properties into a device, you grant the device +1 effect the next time the device is used. If this is done beyond +1 effect, the device is pushed and risks an explosive breakdown. A device may not gain more than +2 effect.

    Mystic Mechanics
You are skilled at incorporating runes and glyphs into your devices to grant them arcane abilities. You get a +1 result level to your roll (a 1-3 becomes a 4/5, etc) when doing this. Because channeling magic into arcane runes and glyphs isn’t for the feint of heart, the Engineer will take 1 stress when they do so.

    Clockwork Muse
You are almost famous for your planning and insight as an Engineer. During downtime you get ether two ticks to distribute among long-term project clocks that involve innovative designs.

    Weapons

    Dagger
A short blade, ideal for close combat or as a tool. (0 load)
    Compact Crossbow
This small, folding, hand-sized crossbow is designed for quick deployment. While it doesn't have the range or power of a full-sized crossbow, it's perfect for tight spaces and surprise attacks. Many Engineers often use specialized bolts. (1 load)
    Mechanical Cane Sword
At first glance, it appears to be a sturdy, polished wood cane. But with the press of a button, a blade extends from one end. The handle also serves as a storage compartment for small tools or components. (1 load)
    Wrench-Club
This hefty, reinforced wrench doubles as a tool and a bludgeoning weapon in a pinch. The weight is carefully balanced for swinging and the handle is often wrapped in leather for a better grip. (1 load)
    Pocket Pistol
This clockwork, flintlock pistol is a small and easily concealed pistol. Unlike most flintlocks, can fire three times before it has to be reloaded. After each shot, the owner points it at the ground and winds the firing spring. It isn’t as powerful as a normal flintlock pistol and is limited to close quarter or short range. (0 load)

    Attire

    Tinker’s Vest
