Lancelot

Raven Melinda Nightingale (a.k.a. Lancelot)

Compassion, Loyalty, Generosity, Courage, Commitment, Resilience, Determination and Humility. These are the principles that describe Raven Nightingale, and what makes her the obvious choice to be the leader of the Legacy, the greatest team of superheroes ever known.   Born to Grant and Hannah Nightingale, and her younger brother Rodney, Raven knew from childhood that she would follow in her family’s footsteps and become a superhero, but watching the Gadgeteer kill her father taught her the reality of what it would be like. Together, she and Rodney defeated the Gadgeteer once and for all. Meanwhile in the process, Raven became friends with one of her classmates, Tyler Winters. She admitted to herself that he was kinda cute, even if she had had a crush on another classmate, Kyle Kurt, for years.   Five years later, Raven and Tyler are going to college and officially dating, when Emulatrix attacks the city. Tyler reveals his ability to manipulate electricity, while Raven winds up accidentally disclosing her superhero persona, Lancelot, to Tyler. Following the death of his brother, Tyler joins the Legacy.   During the final battle against Emulatrix, Tyler is plunged deep into the ocean, and Raven doesn’t waste a nanosecond diving in after him. She succeeds in saving him, but not herself. Fortunately, two years later her body is recovered by an alien warlord named Obitus, who resurrects her, at the cost of her memories, allowing him to control her. Tyler is able to trick her into a situation that causes her to regain memories, resulting in her indomitable personality being restored, allowing the full Legacy to destroy Obitus. In celebration, Tyler and Raven decide to get married, and ultimately give birth to April, Baxter and eventually Luna. Despite the name Nightingale carrying such an immense legacy, combined with Raven’s nature, Raven surprised everyone when she decided to stick with the traditional method of the bride taking the groom’s name, her reasoning being that she wanted to help Tyler finally fulfill his dream of being part of a real family.   Due to his shy nature, Tyler very rarely makes the first move in regards to their dating life, but fortunately, Raven’s determination and commitment always push things along. She was the one to suggest they hang out sometime, to start dating, and it even got to the point where when Tyler got very nervous attempting to Propose, Raven stepped in and Proposed to him. Despite it being Tyler’s lifelong dream to be part of a real family, Raven was the one who had to suggest that they have kids. That being said, while she appreciates how gentle and slow paced he can be, (In fact, it helped her to fall in love with him in the first place), she does sometimes wish he would be just a little more forward on occasion.   When she isn’t commanding the Legacy or going out with Tyler, she’s hard at work making life better for others in any way she can, working to help developmentally delayed children overcome their challenges, then donating any and all unused portions of her paycheck to charity. She is usually calm and collected, but isn’t afraid to speak her mind when she feels something is wrong.   The maddest she had ever gotten was not at a supervillain, but rather an ordinary citizen she had a meeting with, when telling him that his son was racist to one of the children she works with, and his response was, “Well, what’s wrong with being racist?” How she managed to refrain from vaporizing him with one of her energy bolts, she will never know. Her goodwill and positive outlook on life was also put to the test when Emulatrix asked her if she believed that Anne Frank’s parents would have been justified if they decided to take revenge once they were liberated from the camp. Trying hard to not let her outlook on life waver, she lied to him by saying that if she were in their shoes, she wouldn’t seek revenge.
