The Waterdrake
Shedinn, considered by many within the trade to be one of the finest shipwrights alive. The Dragonborn hailing from the city of Stagkeep, within the Republic of Omeran gained world renown for his work. While his crowning achievement is often considered to be The Farseer, the flagship of the Republic’s naval forces, he designed another noteworthy vessel. This one he kept for himself and his kin.
The Waterdrake is not so unique in terms of its design but rather the materials from which it is designed. The hull is made of iron wood from the Irenwud, the construction of which was facilitated and assisted by the Krakhammer dwarves from Berngardr. This unique material makes the ship one of the sturdiest to be found on the water, while maintaining its speed. The dwarves were able to design a coating which protects the hull from rusting, further increasing the lifespan of the vessel.
One other unique feature is the mast of the ship. The Waterdrake’s mast was crafted from a tree that originated in the Feywilds. A type of pine tree, not unlike a white pine - common to material plane. The Fey tree, the Ostr Sbu, that was to become the mast of the Waterdrake was also home to a clan of pixies and sprites. For longer than the pixies can remember, they’ve called that tree home… Even after it became the mast of the Waterdrake.
While the details aren’t clear, it was a combination of the pixie’s love for Shedinn and their love for adventure that they decided to transform their home tree. It also should serve as further testament to the skill of Shedinn, the Dragonborn shipwright of Stagkeep that he was so entrusted.
