Spirits who were initially mortals rather than being born as gods. This is mostly due to obtaining or developing the aether in their soul to the point where their power can match natural born gods. Many ascended through rigorous spiritual and physical training with a regular consumption of wild aether, which could result in spiritual shattering if they couldn't handle it. The process itself can occur regardless of if they've died or if they are still alive.
