The Batlle of the 10 Military Conflict in Hijr | World Anvil

The Batlle of the 10

As the story goes, a local chieftain of the Greyscales challenged five of the human settlers to battle five of his warriors. Humans had begun to hunt and log the area, disrupting the lifestyle of the native tribe. frustration among the natives was nearing a breaking point, and the Lizardfolk Chieftain did not desire bloodshed, and instead hoped to challenge the 'invaders' to a duel, and secure his peoples future. This small conflict was a pressure release, preventing larger scale conflict between the settling humans and the local lizardfolk.

Early in the morning, the chieftain stood atop a hill near the human village, and offered a verbal challenge to the humans. Five of his best hunters against five of the strongest villagers, the winning side would gain control of the contested lands. The duels lasted nearly 6 hours, with each side fighting valiantly, but in the end the humans stood victorious and the chieftain offered his weapon to the villagers in defeat. Surprisingly, the humans instead thanked the chieftain for offering them a way to avoid more bloodshed (as they had not fully realized how near war the Lizardfolk had come), and vowed to move a few miles east, giving the Greyscales more of their lands back.

This might make a good campaign encounter; have each adventurer square off against a unique opponent. if the party has at least 3 members they can single-handedly turn the tide of the conflict if they all win.
