Aarchalia's Quill

While this famous writing implement now sits on the writing desk of a semi-famous halfling chef, it had a much larger part to play in politics and history a few short decades ago.
Once owned by a famous rogue, known as Aarchalia (AIR-chah-Leah), this quill was used to pen the now famous, or perhaps infamous, "Aarchalia Ledger" in 234 CE.
This seemingly innocuous note set a chain of minor events in motion that eventually began a four month conflict, pitting the armed forces defending The Spire against a small but fierce group of Dwarves and giants from Jotunhal to the west. This series of armed engagements and tense negotiations later became known as the Four Month War.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

A traditional, if somewhat extravagant Quill, used for writing.

In a carefully prepared quill such as this, the slit at the tip does not widen through wetting and drying with ink. It will retain its shape adequately and only requires infrequent sharpening and can be used time and time again until there is little left of it.
Protected and surrounded by carved ivory, the hollow shaft of the feather (the calamus) acts as an ink reservoir and ink flows to the tip by capillary action.
Should the feather be used up (whittled sharp until it is too short to fit within the ivory shaft) it can be replaced with another feather of similar size.
