The Independent Principality of Piffling
The Independent Principality of Piffling is a small nation occupying the island of Piffling, about 50 miles off the southern coast of Albion. The island of Piffling is about 1,800 square miles, and was originally granted to the Prince Rudyard the Dour in his father's will, about five hundred years ago, on the condition that Rudyard and his heirs were otherwise disinherited from the royal line of High Albion in perpetuity. It was in Rudyard's time that the island came to be known as Piffling, as the citizens of High Albion found the situation endlessly humorous.
The capital of Piffling is the small town of Piffling Vale. In the last hundred years, Piffling Vale has become a major center of transportation in and out of Albion, as magical transportation has become more and more common. This is because (like most major nations), The Empire of Albion has warded the main island (and Inisfal) so as to prevent direct magical transportation in or out. The little island of Piffling is outside this ward, and is the closest point to Albion itself that magical transportation can take you. As the importance of the island has grown, it has fashioned itself into an elegant transportation hub, and many visitors enjoy the amenities provided in Piffling Vale while passing through the town. There is a daily ferry from Piffling Vale to Penwarby on the southern coast of Albion, where travelers can take a train the additional 50 miles north to Lundeinjon.
The current Prince of Piffling is named Eric. However, the real power on the island is the Wayfarer's Guild, which has a monopoly on magical transportation of both people and goods leaving the island.
