The Silent Clock

Written by MacT09

When I consider the life that lies before me The Silent Clock passes me by. Where the countless gears and wheels turn The Silent clock moves forward one click at a time. Of all the unknown phenomenon that exists in Hevel time is ironically one of the most well-known and simultaneously one of the least understood concepts that an explorer can contemplate while spending it in this bizarre place. Times presence stands as perhaps one of the great monuments of Hevel, yet no one to this day has ever consciously experienced time on any true level of sensory perception that we are currently aware of. Hevel isn't the only realm that contains this curious thing called time, yet in this realm time is nothing more than an enigma of the heart. It's strange to feel The Silent Clocks pull without ever really feeling its hands push you forward. The fact that time in Hevel only moves forward is a mystery all its own, for there are other realms that are known by some beings where time is much more fluid in its movement through these strange realms. Hevel, however, seems fixed on a certain path that cannot be changed by will alone. Time only moves forward, and forward it will go until the wheels cease to turn and The Tree has his day. Yet in the darkness of my mind, I often wonder, does time only exist as a concept or a reality? Perhaps reality is a concept, though only one can say.

Purpose / Function

A relative eye sees many things, though the truth may elude him for the time that he thinks he perceives.

Hazards & Traps

The perception of time seems to change the longer you experience its hold upon your life in Hevel. What can feel like an eternity to some creatures can appear to be fleeting moments to other beings living in the same mysterious construct that looms all around them. Whether the river appears fast to some and slow to others never change times illusive properties as it moves forward to a certain end that we cannot see with our hearts. For some this mysterious end can seem so sudden, even as this same end haunts every explorer that steps through this hazardous world of Hevel.

Alterations

Time always was, is, and always will be up to the point that time was not, isn't, and will never be. Faster and slower The Silent Clock moves as many perceive it though none know that it is true. Only the one who tinkered the clock can say why time is. He will show us soon through The Tree that whispers from ages past.

Architecture

Time may be unknowable, yet the concept inspires many to hallucinate and imagine how this haunting wonder would look if one could stare into its eyes and wonder about its haunting beauty as it stares with a neutral expression back at them. Some see clocks in all their various shapes and sizes showing their faces to the various denizens of Hevel as they spin endlessly forward to a predictable path that has been crossed over so many times. Others see the cycles of Hevel's industry as evidence for times constant presence. Still, some may also observe the end of other creatures here in Hevel, and in so doing catch a glimpse of the intricate web of time that connects and breaks us all. Such is the wonder and horror that plague The SIlent Clock as both life and death flow and clash in a dance that can never be known by the mortals that remain trapped in Hevel's embrace.

History

This SIlent Clock of life is a wonder and horror that overshadows Hevel in an unusual darkness that no one can escape. History is founded on time and the interpretation of it as countless empires and creatures bound themselves to this elusive force of nature. All that is forged within time is ultimately lost within time as even the memories of past events fade into the myths of countless stories that are torn apart by new imaginations trying to repeat a past that they can never fully grasp. Perhaps Hevel is more cursed than any of us care to admit, then again if this is true then are we cursed as well?
