The Conflict
Prelude
The forces of the Dragonlands had forsaken the short route to Saerthondost and appeared to be heading for the River Nimthond and the Cirith Nimrais - or perhaps to the mines at Annogwain. Calling out their allies from the region, the Garrison at Saerthondost sortied and gathered it's forces at Lefbridge to protect the mines at Annogwain.
Deployment
The forces of the Kingdom of Gondor deployed as a group to block the road and deny the Dragonlands warband access to the bridge into Lefbridge. Its right flank was anchored on the river and its left upon broken ground occupied by local Dunlending clansmen. The town was occupied by its residents supported by those from elsewhere in the County of Herrir.
The Engagement
The engagement was a rout. The battle opened with the treachery of the guards of Lefbridge who opened the gates to Dragonlands troops that had secretly made their way up the river under the cover of darkness. The first signs of trouble were that the town started to burn.
The second blow was the appearance, in front of the gathered host, of land-dragons. These creatures created such a dread in the troops that they broke and ran even before battle could be joined. Only a few stood as rear-guard in a futile attempt to delay the inevitable. It was only the dearth of Cavalry in the Dragonlands contingent that prevented a wholesale slaughter - and even so, the few swift creatures that they did possess inflicted terrible destruction upon the panicked rabble.
Outcome
The immediate effect is to cut the County of Herrir off from the rest of Anfalas. It has also reduced the trained garrison at Saerthondost and opened the town of Annogwain to attack by the Dragonlands. The Count of Herrir is missing after taking part in the rearguard and the men of the County of Herrir are either dead or stuck on the wrong side of the River Lefnui and the not easily crossible River Nimthond.
