Justice for the Dryads

July 27, 2021

General Summary

We begin our day with a brand 'new' adventurer among us who is startlingly similar to our dead companion, Rissa.
Brick is trying to be comforting towards the new(?) member who doesn't seem to remember anything about her past, including her name. I gave her my shirt to cover herself and let her ride on Brack since she doesn't even have shoes!
As we arrive in town mid-morning with 'Flower', as she'd like to be called, we discuss the situation and how to protect the dryads from the unjust laws of Novis Terram. We reuinite the three dryad sisters and the grove immediately becomes more vibrant and green.

We discuss how to protect the dryads from Karenalia and the law. Tilly thinks she & Eli have a strong enough raport that she can explain to him the misunderstanding and that it won't happen again. The dryads help us replant the tree and we head into town looking for Eli. He's working in his garden, enjoying the beautiful day with his new squirrelfolk assistant.

Eli and Tilly discuss the concequences of their actions and what needs to be done in regards for justice. Eli sends for the land maps and property liscences so we can show the dryads exactly where their lands ends. Eli still wants to imprison the Branch, which would kill her, but instead we pay her fine for 'destroying' Karenalia's property and go fetch the notory to witness her signing the document for accepting payment towards her charge.

Approaching thier lands, her husband Soren is clearing lands out east in the distance and Karenalia meets us on her deck. Before she even greets us she begins yelling and threatening the dryads. Tilly explains that everything is back the way it should be and Karenalia tries to snatch the paperwork away from Tilly but 'Flower' puts herself in the way. Karenalia tries to bully her way past Flower but the little ratfolk plants her feet and blocks the taller elven woman. Karenalia falls dramatically to the ground and knocks her wrist on the hard dirt while trying to grab the paperwork from Tilly.
I couldn't help but laugh a little bit, and nudge Tilly telling her that Flower is just like Rissa! Finally the barrister comes out and tries to assess the situation. She stands and tries to make up a story painting us as villains in the situation so we spend a lot of time discussing the situation with the lawyer despite Karenalia trying to interfere. Sharp-eyed Tilly notices that the paperwork Karenalia has is different than the papers Eli provided and gets the halfling lawyer to review them.
  He announces that the papers Eli has prove the tree had been on our land the entire time so we all need to convene at the property lines to discover that her documents had been forged. Karenalia tries to run but before she can get nearly any distance at all Freyja hauls her off her feet and brings her back to the lawyer.   On our way back to the city with Karenalia in tow, we begin making a game of listing the potential crimes Karenalia may have commited;
  • Falsifying documents
  • False legal claims
  We discuss the documents with Eli and the lawyer and they discuss the legal ramifications of her forgery. After everything I decide that we should celebrate and take two large bottles of liquor out to Soren with Tilly, Flower, and Freyja.   Sam meets Skylark at the tavern, his former band-mate, and they decide to try working together casually again. Fences mended between the two, they step on stage at the tavern but can't sync during their first performance.

The next morning Bork Borque describes a strange plant creature that the dryads mentioned during one of their conversations. They were odd vine-like animals that survive off a host animal, which isn't compatible with the dryad's bodies but another type of person could meld with them.

I mention that I'm worried about leaving the Yellow Color Out of Space creatures freely spreading but the squad voted and decided to head after the strange vines. I don't know exactly why but it seems important to them so I'm okay with it.

  We travel south with me hauling the cart and navigating. Bork does a good job feeding the littles as we travel and it's nearly a week before we start to see the ocean.   As we sleep Samguise sees a strange light emanating from an odd looking vermin-like creature in the dark. He recognizes it as a Zoog, a tiny magical creature with weird tentacles on their faces, simian limbs, and a penchant for stealing magical items. Thankfully he shouts to let us know that these monsters are nearby, since they enjoy eating humanoid flesh.   Still drowzy, one of the zoog dashes into our camp and takes a bite out of Woofie, causing a wound that seems to bleed a lot more than normal. They begin to swarm in on us as another Zoog runs in to attack Flower and takes a small chunk out of her, too!   Tilly stands up and notices that the creatures are around us and begins summoning a monster. My own companion, Brack, runs to aid Flower who has already been bitten and flanks the zoog. He takes a bite out of it and thankfully it turns on him, ignoring Flower. Flower adjusts away from the beast and channels her invocation to grant us all Fast Healing.   The next four days we begin to move through a more tropical region of jungle as I take us along a stream to save a bit of time. Samguise sees a partially hidden structure and we close in on it. I ask the group if this is what we were looking for but nobody seems to know very much. Freyja references some ancient legends passed through her clan but nothing useful except for the fact that these have been used by people all across the planet.   I question the logic and truth behind the legend but nobody seems to notice my questions and Freyja just goes ahead into the building with the potentially dangerous plant-life. She struggles against the creature but after a few seconds it seems to recognize that Freyja is superior and tries to bond with her - however wasn't ready for that kind of commitment and resists it. Eventually she lets it bond with her and the mission is complete!   Examining the ruined structure we can tell there's unusual writing and Samguise finds three seeds hidden in a cubby, likely more kinds of these Symbionts in seed form.   Plant Symbiont Types:
Grappling Claw
Pod Cannon
Deepsight Goggles
