Motivation
Samguise seems to be mostly motivated by the opportunity to witness dramatic events. So much that he'll stand back and watch his friends get stabbed, bitten, and beaten so he can watch them make a comback and win - creating material for a great song. Some day we won't all survive, but at least he'll have great tales to tell.
