Hunting Yellow E.T.s
July 20, 2021
General Summary
Samguise decides to approach the sickly dryad and somehow provokes a strange burning skeleton wreathed in smoke and flames. It comes out from the crater,
It launches itself towards us, surrounding itself with flames and igniting the area around us.
The fire-skeleton explodes as Tilly's Magic Missiles hit it and the 30ft. explosion knocks out Rissa, Tilly, and Brack out of commission. Unfortunately Rissa is brutally burned. I grab Tilly as she's waking up from the life-saving healing from Bork and begin hauling ass towards the small cart with Branch's sapling on it. "I'm getting us out of here!" I cry as Woofie and Branch rush towards the hostile yellow dryad. The sick dryad sister tries to stab Branch but fumbles and doesn't seem to know what's going on, or who her sister is. Samguise flies past us and casts a quick healing spell on Bork and Tilly lies in my grasp, still badly wounded but stable. Before I carry her off, I ask what we should do and after a moment to gather her wits, Tilly says we should help our friends. Begrudingly I agree to her decision and start walking towards the two struggling dryads. Tilly begins casting a Summon Monster spell, conjuring a celestial eagle. Our druid half-orc commands Woofie to guard Branch, which means attacking Leaf. Bork & I haul ass around the crater to attempt to help her, but I'm really not sure how we can help since we're all still pretty injured. The lunatic halfling soars in on his bat, launching himself from the saddle and hurtling at Leaf. Unfortunately he does not connect with the dryad and he lands on his ass nearby. It was epic but ineffective. I take a couple big swings at Leaf while Branch wails that 'we have to save her!' but offers no way to help. Although I'm open to suggestions, I swing with my massive hammer and connect solidly with her bark-like green skin. She falls to the ground, finally, but Bork tells us that she's dead! It's tragic but before we mourn Samguise mentions that she's part tree and won't have a pulse! We tie her up and... hope for the best. It takes a long while before anybody comes up with a plan, and the The Voice from On High says that the way she is has a ton of Constitution damage and is lucky to still be alive. Plenty of powerful healing spells (Lesser Restoration) could keep her alive and eventually let her recover but we may not have enough magic. We decide to camp near the tree and let Bork heal Leaf as best we can to see if her mind makes a proper recovery. Everyone else was still pretty hurt after the fight and could use a few days to recover. After three days Leaf seems to come to her senses and the yellow taint seems to lift. The Constitution damage is still crippling her, so we stick around a few more days before and I search for a healthy young tree to sustain Leaf for the journey back home. I have lost all faith in my traveling companions. Rissa is dead because we were rushed into a dangerous situation by acting without assesing the situation. Tilly may be the only person I can trust here and even she nearly died during this mission. Six Days in total we wait and another six days (3 days each way) of travel for a total of 9 days away from Hero City for this journey. On the road we discuss how to resolve the issue of Karenalia. Branch is likely looking at upto 3 years of jail, which would ultimately kill her. We aren't sure whether telling the truth is the best idea but neither Tilly, Samguise, or Bork have many solid ideas. I suggest that we pin it on Rissa. Since she's dead and nobody would've suspected her to begin with it's the perfect cover story to save the dryads. We're on our way home when we see a small humanoid on a hill in front of the setting sun, surrounded by a corona of brilliant light - she remembers nothing but the ratfolk woman looks so much like Rissa we think it can't be a coincidence.
