Spiders Among Us
General Summary
After returning the missing skreet...
It only takes a few minutes of discussion before the group decides that Reb should be our next priority, over the exploration party that Phoevus sent for her old hoard. Hopefully Phoevus equipped and prepared them enough to survive since we agree that Reb is likely more important for the village. Samguise convinces Goob to transport us to where we think Reb was headed and we immediately set out southward.
Three days later...
While flying overland Flower spots a dangerous ankheg partially burried and waiting to ambush prey. Concerned that it may pose a threat to someone passing by I suggest we land and clear the area. Before we can even unload from Goob, Tilly begins blasting her magic missiles down from on the side of the hill which causes it to burst from it's hiding place before burrowing away out of our sight.With the target out of sight, Bork & Woofie start heading towards where it was last seen right before an ankheg bursts from the ground right beside Goob and Freyja, biting at Freyja and trying to latch on to her but failing. Since I have a direct line to the monstrous insect I charge with Brack and in a flurry of teeth, claws and hammers we deal some significant wounds to the beast that Freyja is able to capitalize on and finish the creatures' life.
Another two ankheg surprise Bork, Woofie, and Flower, chomping down on Woofie and grasping the wolf in it's mandibles. Bork launches a seed missile to entangle the ankheg holding Woofie but the wolf fails to escape from it's grasp. Flower is sandwiched between the ankheg and Goob, which leaves her an easy target for the large insect to grab her. Trying to rescue her from it's mandibles I charge forward and smash it with my earth breaker hammer before Freyja once again dashes in and finshes what I managed to start, saving Flower and freeing Samguise to target the last enemy.
With a mighty magic missile, Tilly blasts the final bug and it collapses. I ensure that all the ankhegs we'd seen were killed by counting their antennae since Tilly had damaged them, and moving on once I authorize the party to do so. Because they listen to my opinion. I don't know why.
We continue onward while tracking Reb and find an area covered in thin filliments, like webbing and the half-orcs agree it's from some kind of large spider - likely larger than an average human. Freyja sees something, possibly Reb, wapped up in a cocoon on the side of the hill so we descend to attempt a rescue.
Samguise swoops in to inspect the half-wrapped victim but gets ambushed by a human-spider creature that throws webbing at Batty, entangling her and forcing the duo to struggle to stay aloft. As Goob lands, Brack & I rush out to engage the man-spider, which Samguise later told me was an ettercap, but we're stopped by two man-sized spiders that poison Brack.
There's more but mostly I remember Tilly firing a burning ray of flame past me and hitting a large spider squarely! After the fight we gather together and do our best to save Batty White from the poison she suffered during the melee and she barely pulls through with medical treatment from Flower, Bork, and Samguise.
We find that Reb died clutching a small metal and wooden tube with mysterious moving parts that was likely some kind of projectile that used alchemy.
Bork realises that where Reb was crawling there are signs of crafted architecture and lettering that matches the language found on the note Reb had found!
With Reb's corpse we head back to the skreet village.
