Personal history

She was born in Millennium City on the moon and was left at a hospital by her biological parents with only a note stating her name was "Samantha Elizabeth". Soon after, she was adopted by Lucia Maria Flores and her wife Amanda Murphy. At the hospital, she was found to have a congenital heart defect as well as Logan's Disease, a condition that makes her deathly allergic to Medigel. Because of this, she spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals growing up, with many health scares along the way.   She grew up with an 'older sister' who as a preteen came out as trans and changed his name to James. She's always gotten along with James, who has doted on her and been very protective ever since she was adopted.   Sam was only 4 years old when the Wiltingwell Incident occurred. One of her moms, Amanda, was a metahuman so she vanished along with her grandparents. After that, she and James were raised by Lucia alone through the Void Age. Lucia ran an inclusive bar and restaurant and the family lived in the two floor apartment right above it.   When she was 11, she was diagnosed with bone cancer originating in her right leg. After fighting it for two years with conservative methods, the leg had to be amputated once the cancer metastasized to her lungs in order to stop the most aggressive part of it.   As a result of being in and out of hospitals so much, she had trouble making and keeping friends, something which only got harder the older she got. As a result she stuck with James as much as she could. However, once she entered high school, she met a girl called Haley Miller with whom she struck a fast friendship. Despite no one else in the school wanting to be near her, Haley made her feel welcome at the school and quickly became one of the most precious people in Sam's life.   That very year, on the tenth anniversary of Wiltingwell, the Reawakening caused millions of people all over Earth and the moon to have a metahuman awakening for the first time since the Incident. Sam and Haley, both being avid superhero nerds were very excited at the implications and secretly hoped they themselves would get powers and join their heroes in fighting crime and kicking ass.   It wouldn't be long before Sam would realize she was attracted to girls and that she might be gay. This realization also came as she figured out she was in love with Haley, something she struggled with because she both didn't think Haley liked girls that way based on her boy-craziness and because she didn't feel worthy of having those feelings returned to begin with.   In the summer of 2011, after finishing grade 10, Haley turned 16 and experienced her own awakening, developing teleportation abilities. Haley wanted to immediately work towards a career as a paragon, something Sam helped her pursue because it was her passion.   At the end of grade 11, Haley told her she'd been invited to a juniour superhero program by none other than one of their heroes, the retired Lead Maiden. Now that one of them was actually getting a chance to become a real superhero who fought crime and Furies, Sam's enthusiasm dampened but she did her best to hide her reservations and worries to fully support her best friend and the girl she secretly loved. Before the next year started, Haley put her down as her Navigator, something which came with Agency perks and let Haley share a bunch of behind the scenes details about the Agency and working for them as a hero, including things that just weren't common knowledge or that were simply obscure facts.   In grade 12, while Haley did her extracurricular superheroing, Sam's health began to seriously deteriorate and she had to be hospitalized a few times. Despite finally being in remission, her heart was reaching its limit and the chances of her getting a heart transplant before it gave out were very slim because she could only now be put on a transplant wait-list and even then if a heart became available, it would then have to be compatible with Sam whose Logan's Disease made it less likely for compatibility to be found.   Just a week before prom, Sam's world came crashing down. Hours after a clumsy love declaration just before Haley had to head to her juniour superhero group, Sam got a call that a compatible heart had suddenly become available. She was rushed to the hospital by her mom and went into surgery for the transplant while still worrying about how things had left off with Haley. Then when she woke up after a successful transplant, she received the news that Haley had died and that the heart she'd gotten was Haley's.   Sam spent the next year grieving and struggling to cope with everything. It wasn't until the summer of 2014, after receiving a bionic prosthetic leg with some of the money from Haley's life insurance policy, that she convinced herself to move to Earth to attend college and get away from everything in an attempt to start moving on and getting on with her life separate from everything she knew. She also developed an intense distaste for Icarus in the aftermath, blaming them for Haley's death more than anything even though she understood and agreed that the Agency was a force for good and a net positive for the system.   She moved to Mississauga, Ontario to attend a college for its three year digital art program. While there she made a few acquaintances but only became close with two people, Alex and Chase, fellow art students doing different programs. They graduated a year before Sam and as they became a couple and moved in with each other, Sam went back to keeping mostly to herself.   Now, after graduating from the program, Sam has moved to Toronto for new experiences and is looking for a job to pay rent and get work experience, something she has none of. Secretly, she's also avoiding looking for a job that uses her diploma because she's unsure of whether that career is something she should really pursue after all.
