Structure

Exposition

Scene 1 – The Forest's Edge (Ruha & Thorgrott) Thorgrott has been hiking through the forest for a day, grumbling and following rough schematics showing a rumored old tram tunnel into Coinsquare.   He spots a makeshift marker carved into a tree: a Bowlscraper gang symbol. Moments later, Ruha steps out of the brush—perhaps tracking Thorgrott or sent to meet him for the mission.   They share a brief exchange: Ruha wants to lead, but Thorgrott has the map. They bicker, but both know something is wrong with the land.   Scene 2 – The Magical Disturbance (Folium & Ludwig) Folium, navigating by instinct and magic, feels a pull from the forest floor—perhaps a forgotten Grove root network. A vision hits her again. The forest is “whispering” a warning.   Just then, she hears someone approaching from behind: it’s Ludwig, emerging with purpose. He doesn’t strike, but when their eyes meet, a strange, resonant echo pulses between them—faint magic residue from the storm.   They argue; Folium insists she’s not a threat, Ludwig is shaken. Perhaps he’s unsure if now is the time to strike—or needs proof she is truly unstable.   Scene 3 – Juniper Arrives (Cue Chaos) Juniper, dressed poorly for forest travel, arrives lost. She’s holding a beautiful but impractical map from the Court of gems, muttering about a shortcut to Coinsquare.   She stumbles upon the clearing where Ruha and Thorgrott are arguing and Ludwig and Folium are at a standoff.   Seeing them all, she panics and yells, causing everyone to pause.

Backdrops

Encounters

Coin

As the group explores Coinsquare, one of the players accidentally kicks a silver coin, sending it rolling across the uneven cobblestones before it vanishes into a cracked drain or under debris. Players can make a game of it: “I bet I can find it before you do!” or “Loser buys drinks next time we find a tavern.” They must decide if they compete or cooperate to retrieve the coin. This might reveal who cares about money, who enjoys competition, and who plays for fun. The coin might be retrievable with clever thinking, or permanently lost—what matters is how the players interact. This playful conflict sets up character personalities and group dynamics.

Truth or dare

After the battle in Coinsquare, the group rests in an abandoned building or near a ruined fountain. The air is cold, and someone starts a small fire with leftover wood. One player (or the DM) suggests a game: “Tell a truth about yourself, a lie, and a dream. We guess which one is which.” Players share secrets, backstory hints, or outright fabricate details. Some might refuse to play, adding mystery to their character. Others might test each other’s insight. Players can try to read each other (Insight check) or press for answers (Persuasion or Intimidation). This gives lighthearted or dramatic insight into each character. If a player’s truth is particularly dark, the group may need to navigate that reaction together.

Duel

After combat in Coinsquare, a discussion about fighting styles or past training leads to a challenge—a friendly duel (or contest of skill) between two or more party members. Martial characters engage in sparring, first to land a clean hit wins. Magic users test control by hitting a target with magic without harming anything. A skill-based duel could involve lockpicking, balance, or endurance. The third player can bet on the outcome or act as the referee. The duel can be a single contested roll (Athletics, Acrobatics, Spell Attack) or a best-of-three challenge. Win or lose, this lets players establish pride, humor, rivalry, or camaraderie.     elven house: crossing the doorstep a player is silenced, intruder marked on their chest. They are only able to speak in sylven, needing to invite the others into the house.   Clothing store Enchanted garments (gloves, scarves, capes, or corsets) fly off the racks and attempt to forcibly dress the player. Oh, we simply insist!”   Bypass or Resolve: Calmly saying “Thank you, not today” in Elvish stops the enchantment. Arcana DC 12 recognizes this as a common enthusiastic enchantment found in luxury stores. Dispel Magic or Prestidigitation removes the clothes if needed.
