History of Kathlam

The History of Kathlam before the great disaster has been lost, and even now much has been left to time in the long years the people of Kathlam has struggled to regain their former holdings and pride.

The Years of Disorder

the period following the great catastrophe is refereed to as the Dark age, mainly for the lack of knowledge during this time, but also for the horrendous events the occurred during it.

    The Great Catastrophe

    The exact cause of the catastrophe is unknown, but it's effects are still felt to this day, it is described in short and tattered phrases, that the sky turned into a sea of colour, how the realms flickered, the walls of houses twisting and turning with the people inside, how the world withered away, and great storm surged across the land, for twenty years the storm raged, and where it went it brought with it the desolate waste, the green grasses turned to sand and people turned to beast, only where the mages gathered could the storm be held back.

    The Mage Wars
    Military action

    The Mage Wars is what followed in the immediate wake of great catastrophe, with all sense of leadership gone and the old empire no longer an actuality, it was up to the righteous mage orders to ensure the elimination of the vile mage cults that had caused this event. The cull of these cults would be a long and arduous affair, for they bound the will of the people through foul and forbidden arts, bringing ruin and death to the few remaining cities that remained.

The Age of Gathering

In these days began the reclamation of civilization, marked by the rise of the first mage lords and the establishment of the great cities.   During this age would the Kathara begin their exodus towards these safe heavens, and the great mage lords welcomed them as saviors.

    Founding

    Many of the Great mage lords and their houses can trace their linage to this date, it is during this time period that many of the great cities would come to prominence, some of the greatest mages of their time and for the future were born during this dangerous time period such Khorum amk Adya Ifra Harkron of the Silver legion.

    The Acendance of Rashim
    Life, Birth

    The birth of the holy bloodline was marked by the sun touching the earth, Rashim the First Radiant was born, and with her birth would begin a struggle that took her entire life, to take the city of at mouth of the Nitea, it's original name lost to time and removed from history. Though much of life remains uncertain, it is known that she would only achieve her goal in the year 1150 and established the city of Rashim on the ashes on her enemies and liberated the people of the Nitea from their oppressors.

    War for the sacred flame
    Revolution

    In the wake of her ascension many of the Ardents felt cheat of what they felt was theirs, many of them committing the ultimate sin of treason against the Radiant. The war would bring ruin to Rashim, the Radiant was quick to cull disloyal members of the court and city, and begin her campaigns against the traitors, with much of the early fighting being held with the very city.   Her early reign was thus marked by bloodshed and fire. Though not all of the Ardents would be caught.

    The Secound war for the sacred flame

    Though many years since the first war, a member of the royal family revealed herself to be a descendant to the original traitor Ardents, having seduced some members of the Craftmen and mages to her cause with false promises of power, throwing the city in disarray, but they quickly proved little mage for The Radiant and her loyal subjects. Though the war would take many years as she fled to the deserts waging a guerilla war against the The Radiant.

    The Sacking of Fahdarm
    Disaster / Destruction

    The Forces Rashim and Kadri joined forces to punish Fahdarm for harbouring the Traitor to the The Radiant, and to reclaim the sacred scepter of shaping which was stolen from Kadri. The City was left in ruins, but the traitor managed to escape with the sceptor.

    The Harrow Storm
    Metaphysical / Paranormal event

    The Harrow Storm was a sudden and devasting event for the people of Kathlam, it's cause still remains and mystery and a concern to many, as a great and dark storm came from the Foul Wind Desert, shrouding the sky in darkness and thunder, and with it, it brought the dead and endless legion of the restless dead rose from the sands the ghost of ancient mages howled in the winds, in the dark storms did strange shapes of light and dark walk, and where they strode the dead howled their names. Though all the nations of Kathlam were affect non more so than Ondessa, all of it's great mages and houses simply disappeared over night, leaving the city defenseless and unprepared for the hordes, with only some of the minor guilds and it's soldiers left to defend the city, all seemed lost, had it not been for the unlikly saviours of the Morticians, the cult had always had a presence the lands but as hope seemed bleak did they ride out from the sands to aid the people, holding the line to save most of them during the 7 days of night.
