After the creation of humankind in 3824 BR, Helstav expanded as the populace rose exponentially. As the population grew, so did the disease. In 3550 BR, there was an outbreak of a plague in the Stone Octant that would take eleven years to fully exterminate.

As the population of Helstav spiked around 3550 BR, the interactions between people of different origins led to a spike in disease. As the diseases mixed and influenced each other, a new sort of disease evolved. Originally named the Long Pig Epidemic by the Dwarves, the disease was soon colloquially named the Stone Plague. The Stone Plague originated as a transmissible disease spread by touch. For eleven years, the epidemic terrorized the Stone Octant, which was kept under a careful quarantine to prevent the spread of the disease. For a long time, it proved resilient to the healing magic of the healers of the Holy Octant. Teleportation into and out of the Stone Octant was allowed only with the authorization of the Helstav Council.   Eventually, the combined efforts of divine prayers and interventions of the Holy Octant and the arcane talent and research of the Study Octant dealt with the disease. The Stone Octant was kept in quarantine for another two years, until the area was deemed devoid of the plague.
