Magna Quadragintium
While life is certainly hard among the remnants of Sovrano, nowhere is life more at risk than those who live within the island city-state of Volare. While living in the shell of Altiora has its benefits, the mountains effect on magic leaves The Divine Republic defenseless to many threats seen as mundane to other parts of the world. Historically, the greatest threat to Volare has been the Eclissian Plague and other diseases, leading to the creation of the Magnificent Quadragintium as the city's last line of defense against disease.
Purpose / Function
The purpose of the Building is two-fold: customs for imports and quarantine for visitors/immigrants. Imports are decontaminated and let through within a week, faster if it is perishable food, while guests are required to quarantine within one of the accommodating rooms for forty days. The Facility may also act as a hospital if necessary, treating any who are actively sick or injured when they enter along with those who become sick or injured during their quarantine.
Alterations
As the years have gone by and Volare has grown more influential and of interest to tourists and immigrants, there have been many expansions to the building's facilities. Originally only capable of properly quarantining 50 people, the number of people who can stay here at one time is currently close to two thousand. The building was also expanded to accommodate for the newly constructed Aerodrome.
Architecture
Being constructed after the ecllisian plague, the Quarantine was constructed in the sleek neo-volaran style combining elements of classical Sovranese Architecture with a smooth, modern twist meant to evoke thoughts of cleanliness and purity. It is primarily constructed of locally quarried granite.
Tourism
Anybody who wishes to enter the city is required to stay within the Quarantine for forty days. Exceptions are sometimes made to the length of stay during emergencies, but there is no way to enter the city from either the harbor or aerodrome without going through this building.
