Developing a Character
By now you will have created the foundation of your character - good job! Now the fun part begins.
So, first up, good news! All of your characters begin at Level 5 - hooray! This will open up a number of possibilities with your characters both mechanically as well as for roleplay purposes. This is the time to lock in the direction you want to take your character - read ahead and see what amazing skills and abilities await you in the future. It is really important you are happy with your character's trajectory because these are your characters for the whole campaign... or until they die I guess. Make your final choices and lock it all in, on DND Beyond. As a tool it is your best friend and will save copious amount of time once you know how to wrangle it.
As will be explored in the upcoming article on
House Rules - Tim Edition, as well as in the campaign info, there will be a number of changes to traditional 5e campaigns in this setting eg. Tim rules. Rules as written or RAW will still be the basis of how things play out, but I will allow flexibility where I can. This can also apply to your character choices and development of your history.
Now is the time to be creative! Come up with a compelling back story. Create some interesting visuals for your character. Make an interesting or funny accent that you can manage (don't overcommit to something too hard). Create some strange habits that make your character so compelling. When you go through DND beyond there will be a lot of options for developing your backstory and all the things that make your character tick. Fill them ALL out! Your bonds, flaws, motivations etc. will make your character so much more fun to play. Remember - no one is perfect, and as such an imperfect character will feel so much more interesting than creating a silent cyborg. Also, as fun as loners are - this is a team game, so if you go the 'lone wolf' route, make sure you still work with the team and over time show a little growth! I promise it is more fun that way.
Your characters history and investments will make up 50% of the action in a campaign, so make sure you don't miss out by being unprepared. By the way, I will attempt to pepper your background into each session, but I can't spend our 4 hour (or whatever) sessions doing 45 minutes on each person - we won't get anywhere. If you don't get any personalised fun, I apologise... I have likely booked your story in for another timeslot OR I don't have enough to go off of yet and am waiting for your own in game roleplay revelation to make anything happen.
If you have any amazing ideas, talk about them with me! I will help make your vision a reality, as I want you to have fun as well. If you want a rich multi-tiered story, I have got your back. If you want secrets from the rest, hell yes, let's do it - I am down. If you want to be surprised by something from your past, leave some stuff a little open-ended and I will try to fill in the blanks. Give the character creation side some thoughts and your experience will be so much more richer for it... I promise.
Well, enough talk, let's do this! For more info check out some other articles on World Anvil. Otherwise it's time play - Into the Aether.
