Class and Race Politics

All races are equal - but some races are more equal than others!   One's race can determine a large number of things. Your strength, your prowess, your capabilities and even your potential are all oftentimes dictated at birth - but in Helia there is a whole lot more that race dictates.   Helia on paper is a very accommodating planet. All races and creeds are accepted via the doctrines of Junon. In reality though, there is a vast difference between the humanoid races and those of different skin colours and shapes. Generally speaking there are three classes in society and most of the known planets inhabitants are broken down into one of three classes.   First class citizens are considered anyone who is identifiably humanoid and possesses skin that doesn't stray too far in colour from any standard beige palette - inclusive of blacks, browns and whites eg. Humans, Elves, Goliaths (within reason), Dwarves, Gnomes, Halflings. The First Classers make up the upper class of society. People of the Junon Assembly are limited to First Classers, and any scholars within the temples are only chosen from First Classers as well.   Second class citizens are those that do not fit the standard colour spectrum or shape of everyone else eg. Orcs, Centaurs, Teiflings. This is typically due to their more beast like nature or tendency towards magics that are not standardised 'divine' practices. Those who are typically given second class status, find themselves unable to progress in most roles in society. Furthering this, second classers are typically fit to only be warriors or servants and as such do not receive protection from the Enforcers. Despite their persecution and limitations in status, most guilds offer opportunities for second classers to work comfortably. Adventuring guilds and Mercenary guilds also provide the necessary protection for the average second classer to live happily - although this luxury often comes at a price.   At the bottom of the pecking order are the Third Classers. Those within this group typically are water dwellers like Water Genasi or Tritons, or those that possess the ability to fly, such as Fairies and Arakokra. Third classers are largely looked down upon or outright feared by the general public. The laws of Junon suggest that those that innately possess the traits of The Irreverent are seen to be the greatest threats to society. They are often slandered as RevKin and ostracised if not captured on sight. They are often considered living embodiments of the Irreverent since they refuse to stand on the ground like the rest of society. As such Third Classers are placed on the same level as those who choose to use Aether - and based on the Doctrines of Junon, they therefore "...seek to usher the Irreverent's destruction upon the world".
