Palace of the Sun

The Palace of the Sun stands as the most prominent structure in the port city of Argonsa, its gleaming spires rising above the maze of narrow streets and bustling markets that spread across the northwest coast of Mar Mabon. A grand testament to the city’s wealth and power, the palace is also home to the enigmatic ruler, Prince Alfic Galmanda, whose family has governed Argonsa for many generations.

Built of pale golden sandstone, the Palace of the Sun is a paragon of Mar Mabon architecture. The sprawling structure stretches along the harbour’s eastern edge, its tiered courtyards and interconnected terraces offering magnificent views of the city and the Sea of Fair Winds beyond. Wide, sweeping ramps encircle the exterior, allowing access to the upper tiers, and grand archways adorned with delicate carvings of the sun and celestial symbols serve as entrances to its many halls. The highest spire of the palace, shaped in the likeness of a rising sun, houses the prince’s private chambers and offers an unparalleled vista of the sun setting over the distant waves.   Inside, the palace is a place of both opulence and mystery. Long corridors lined with tapestries depicting the city’s past and the deeds of its rulers lead to a series of elegantly furnished chambers, each filled with priceless artefacts and treasures from across the archipelago. Richly woven carpets, tapestries of gold and silver thread, and finely wrought lamps illuminate the halls, casting a warm glow that evokes the gentle light of a summer dawn.   Prince Alfic, known for his charm and ambition, is not only the political and military leader of Argonsa but also a skilled mage with a mastery of Channeling. Beyond his magical abilities, Prince Alfic is also renowned as an avid collector of magical items and artefacts. His personal treasury, hidden deep within the palace’s foundations, is filled with rare and powerful relics that he has acquired through means both fair and foul. From enchanted weapons to items imbued with strange, arcane properties, Alfic’s obsession with magical power is well known. The prince will go to great lengths to secure any item that catches his interest, whether through negotiation, subterfuge, or even outright theft.

Within the palace’s innermost sanctum lies Alfic’s hidden treasure chamber, known only to a select few trusted retainers. Here, artefacts of immense power are kept under lock and key, their secrets known only to the prince. The prince’s obsession with magical power has not gone unnoticed by his peers in the Mar Mabon Townships or beyond. Though many fear his growing might, others seek to curry favour by offering rare artefacts in exchange for his support.   Despite the shadowy rumours surrounding the prince, the Palace of the Sun is a place of splendour and celebration. Banquets and feasts are held in the Great Hall, where Argonsa’s finest display their wealth and influence. Merchants, nobles, and even the occasional emissary from Forbin, Mar Miskun or Remon are welcomed to the palace’s courtyards, where they barter and bargain under the watchful gaze of Alfic’s guards and advisors.   Security at the palace is maintained by the Sun Guard, Alfic's personal force. They are led by Alfic's loyal lieutenant, Captain Passell.
