Hibressand

Hibressand, once a thriving stronghold nestled at the northern extreme of the Krund Hills, now stands in ruin, a silent testament to the 11th century war between the Kingdom of Remon and the Remon of Ath Girin. The conflict, which raged between 1082 and 1085, saw both sides suffer much destruction, with Hibressand being one of the most notable casualties.   Originally constructed when Remon was a territory of the Realm of Forbin, Hibressand had long been a bastion of military strength. The castle’s walls were thick and high, designed to withstand sieges and harsh conditions. Its commanding position gave it a strategic advantage, as it overlooked key routes into the kingdom's heartlands. However, this same strategic importance made it a prime target when hostilities broke out between Remon and the Norran of Ath Girin in 1082.   The Norran, expert fighters in mountainous terrain, launched a series of surprise attacks against the Kingdom of Remon, utilizing their deep knowledge of the landscape. In 1084, after several skirmishes along the border, the Norran forces overwhelmed Hibressand in a devastating siege. The Norran’s superior mobility in the rugged terrain, combined with the remoteness of Hibressand, left the garrison cut off from reinforcements. After weeks of bitter fighting, the fortress fell, its walls shattered by the relentless assaults. Survivors were few, and the ruins were left abandoned as a stark warning to those who sought to challenge the mountain people.   Peace was made between Remon and the Norran in 1085, but Hibressand was never rebuilt. Over the years, the once-mighty fortress crumbled further, its towers collapsing and its walls being overtaken by the harsh environment of the Krund Hills. The wind howls through the ruins, and travellers speak of strange echoes and whispers among the broken stones. The Norran of Ath Girin, despite their eventual peace with Remon, left the site untouched, perhaps out of respect for the ferocity of the battle or as a reminder of their victory.
