Fort Savarrin

Fort Savarrin is a remote military outpost, situated high in the rugged foothills of the Redpeak Mountains. Perched on a rocky rise, it commands a sweeping view of the fertile river valleys to the north, where the rivers Oln and Kir carve through the landscape. Despite its position overlooking such fertile lands, the fort itself is stark and foreboding, a lonely bastion amidst the harsh winds and stony terrain of the upper hills.   Built with the hard, grey stone of the Redpeaks, Fort Savarrin has a sturdy, no-nonsense design. Its thick walls are unyielding, rising sharply against the skyline, and the squat watchtowers flanking its corners afford sentries an excellent vantage point over the surrounding countryside. The fort’s relative isolation, far from the main settlements and trade routes, has made it an ideal site for securing the borders of the Peacekeepers’ occupied territories. Captain Vindan Toormos, a devout follower of Piatok, leads the garrison stationed here. Known for his uncompromising nature, Vindan wields a warhammer and shield with the emblem of his god—a symbol of strength and protection for the troops under his command.   Despite its distant location, Fort Savarrin has become a focal point for more than just border security. It houses a small but heavily fortified prison beneath its foundations, where a few highly dangerous individuals are held in deep, guarded cells. Among these is a former lieutenant of Yarivona's forces, captured near Amur Lefra after the War of Salvation. This prisoner’s knowledge of the dark magics once wielded by the Terosian warlords makes them a potential target for all manner of unsavoury groups. The nature of their captivity is a closely guarded secret, known only to Captain Toormos and a handful of high-ranking officers.   Although the nearest settlement of any significance is Marun, a small town more than ten miles to the north, the fort’s garrison is kept on high alert. The rugged terrain makes direct assaults unlikely, but recent sightings of scouts in the hills suggest that someone is interested in Fort Savarrin’s hidden prisoner.
