Fort Olba

Fort Olba is a modest yet well-positioned fortification overlooking the trade road that winds along the coast from the bustling port city of Olbrint.   Constructed atop a low hill, its stone walls rise above the surrounding plains, offering a commanding view of the nearby river bridge and the coastal routes. Though the fort’s garrison is small, it serves as a critical outpost, ensuring that the northern approach to Olbrint remains secure and that traders and travellers passing through the region feel the presence of Parroc's authority.   The fort itself is a compact structure, with thick stone walls and a central keep surrounded by two defensive towers. The fort’s design prioritises visibility and rapid response, making it a watchful guardian over the road and river. Within the keep, the barracks and storage areas are well maintained, but it is clear that Fort Olba lacks the scale and grandeur of larger fortresses like those in Olbrint or further south. Lord Fillon Pellottrin, a loyal vassal of Lady Rayna Tharnesta, presides over the garrison. He is a shrewd and capable leader, known for his keen eye for trouble and his pragmatic approach to governance.   While Fort Olba’s role is primarily one of oversight and vigilance, recent events have cast a shadow over its peaceful facade. Over the past few months, a series of unexplained sicknesses and misfortunes have plagued the surrounding villages and the garrison itself. Crops have withered unexpectedly, livestock have fallen ill, and a sense of dread hangs over the entire region. Whispered rumours suggest that these afflictions are not natural, but rather the work of dark forces at play—forces that may have taken root in the isolated caves and woodlands near Fort Olba.   Captain Pellottrin, though a man of rationality, has been forced to consider that these occurrences are more than mere coincidence. A recent patrol discovered strange symbols carved into the trunks of trees in a secluded grove north of the fort. These symbols, reminiscent of the twisted runes associated with the cult of Tirax, were found alongside burnt offerings and scattered remnants of ritualistic objects.
