Fort Mahinn

The ruins of Fort Mahinn rise eerily from the waters of the Olbrint Strait, a stark reminder of the island’s tumultuous past.   Situated on a small, partially submerged island just off the coast of Parroc, the fort was once a proud stronghold, defending the nearby coast and serving as a checkpoint for ships bound for the mainland. Now, it stands abandoned and crumbling, with much of its lower levels swallowed by the relentless tides. Only the uppermost remnants of its once-sturdy walls and a few jagged stone pillars remain visible above the waves, creating an otherworldly silhouette against the horizon.   The island itself is little more than a jagged outcrop of rock, covered in salt-scarred vegetation and surrounded by treacherous shoals. The approach is perilous, with sharp rocks and hidden sandbanks that can easily tear apart the hull of any ship that dares venture too close. When the tide is high, the sea floods into the lower halls of the fort, making exploration a dangerous affair. Yet despite its bleak and forbidding appearance, the ruins of Fort Mahinn have long drawn the interest of adventurers, treasure hunters, and scholars alike.   Legends speak of a lost hoard hidden somewhere within the submerged depths of Fort Mahinn - treasures amassed during the fort’s final days before it was abandoned. According to these tales, the hoard was the fortune of the notorious pirate-lord Vostell Darran, who is said to have sacked the fort centuries ago and claimed it as his own. Unable to hold the fort against a combined assault from the Forbin navy and local forces, Vostell reportedly ordered his men to bury his treasure deep within the fort’s foundations, sealed behind enchanted stonework that could only be revealed under the right conditions.   The attack on Fort Mahinn was swift and brutal, and Vostell Darran was slain during the fighting. With his death, the secret of the treasure’s location was lost, and the fort itself was abandoned, left to be claimed by the sea. Over the centuries, the tides have slowly eroded the remaining walls, and what little is left of Fort Mahinn is now half-submerged and inaccessible during high tide. Still, the legend of Vostell’s hoard persists, and many have risked life and limb to explore the ruins in search of riches—most have found only treacherous footing and disappointment.   Yet recently, new clues have surfaced, rekindling interest in the lost hoard. A local fisherman, sheltering from a storm on the island’s rocky shore, stumbled across a set of carvings on a partially submerged wall. These carvings hint at a hidden mechanism deep within the ruins that might open the way to Vostell’s treasure. The fisherman sold his discovery to a wealthy merchant in Olbrint, but word of the carvings has spread, drawing the attention of both treasure seekers and those with more nefarious intentions.
