Fort Drechorn

Fort Drechorn clings to the headland above the Mabon Channel, its broken silhouette stark against the sky. Positioned just around the bay from the port town of Gathansin, this once-mighty stronghold served as a sentinel over the waters of northern Mar Mabon, guarding the entrance to the bay and the valuable trade routes beyond.   Constructed from dark stone, the fort’s crumbling walls and sagging battlements now stand as a testament to the fading power of the old Thalissian Empire. Long since abandoned, Fort Drechorn is a place of whispers and shadows, its desolation watched over only by the sea and sky.   Once, Fort Drechorn was a beacon of security for the region, its garrison providing a bulwark against pirates and raiders prowling the Mabon Channel. The fort’s strategic position, perched atop a rocky promontory, offered its defenders a clear view of any approaching vessels. With its thick outer walls and narrow arrow slits, the fort was designed to withstand the worst of sieges, but it fell not to force, but to neglect and time. Now, the central keep is roofless and open to the elements, and the old barracks have been reclaimed by creeping vines and weeds. Erosion has torn great chunks from the walls, leaving parts of the structure teetering on the edge of collapse.   Despite its ruinous state, Fort Drechorn retains an air of mystery and foreboding. The extensive network of underground passages, once used to move troops and supplies unseen, now lies dark and empty, except for the occasional adventurer or scavenger who dares to explore its depths. Local legends speak of hidden chambers and lost treasures buried beneath the fort’s foundations, and in recent years, the ruins have drawn the attention of treasure-seekers hoping to unearth a long-lost artefact: a lyre said to have been played by a bard whose music could calm the wildest of storms.
