Champion of the Peoples of Persothan

The Champion of the Peoples of Persothan is one third of the city's ruling Triumvirate.
In ages past, the role of Champion was chosen by popular vote amongst the people of Persothan every five years. In theory, any free citizen could be nominated as a candidate, although in practice only those achieving wide recognition in battle or other arenas were likely to win many votes.
Over time, both the nomination and voting processes became increasingly corrupt. The chosen Peoples' Champion was invariably a powerful merchant or military figure, and eventually all pretence of democratic choice faded away. Now, the Champion is appointed by the city's elite, and with the role held for many years longer than the official term length.
The current holder of the title is the elderly Morfarz Mastrinn, a wealthy merchant and oligarch.
