Bekkan Dirys
Bekkan Dirys, nestled deep in the southern Redpeaks along the road to Amur Lefra, was once a proud symbol of Terosian strength and resilience. Now, it stands as a crumbling ruin, its former glory obscured by creeping vines and the encroaching wilderness. The castle was destroyed twenty years ago during the War of Salvation, when the forces of Forbin swept through the region, shattering Teros’s resistance and leaving the stronghold a desolate shell of its former self.
Approaching the ruin, one is met with the ghostly silhouette of what was once a grand courtyard, now overtaken by thorny brambles and twisted roots. The central keep, or what remains of it, rises like a jagged tooth amidst the rubble, its interior choked with debris and shadows. The shattered remnants of its parapets and collapsed archways bear the scars of battle, the stonework blackened by fire and pitted from siege weapons. The castle’s walls may no longer echo with the clash of steel, but the air here still carries a sense of bitter defeat, a reminder of the fierce struggle that took place.
Though abandoned by its former masters, Bekkan Dirys has not been entirely forgotten. The ruins are a favoured haunt of scavengers and treasure-seekers, who comb through the wreckage in search of valuables or relics overlooked in the aftermath of the war. Some speculate that in the confusion of the final assault, a number of the castle’s chests and vaults were sealed shut, entombing wealth or artefacts that could still lie hidden beneath the rubble. While locals dismiss such notions as wishful thinking, stories of gold or ancient weaponry continue to draw the desperate and the daring.
The road to Bekkan Dirys is treacherous, winding through steep hills and narrow passes where the threat of ambush is ever-present. Bandits have been known to lurk along these paths, preying on those drawn to the ruin’s allure. Even so, the ruin’s position makes it a tempting waypoint for those willing to brave the journey. Adventurers and treasure-seekers alike continue to test their mettle against the ruin’s dangerous reputation, some hoping to recover what might have been left behind in the castle’s vaults or to uncover items of power that once belonged to Terosian commanders.
