Mana Reserve Item in Helaeron | World Anvil

Mana Reserve

A Manafont is an object infused with The Energy of Mana and kept on the person of a Mage in order to supplement the need to draw on the Mana of their own body. These objects are typically precious gems and crystals. But sometimes there are constructed objects that can hold vast reserves of Mana. The like and design of which can vary from Mage to Mage. Some have even designed their Conduit Tool to also serve as a Mana Reserve.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Manafonts are made from Precious Gems, Crystals, and Minerals. Some are any of these kinds by themselves, others are assembled constructions of them. Gems, Crystals, and Minerals, like anything and anyone else in the world, are comprised and sustained by a formation of Mana itself. But these three are remarkably resistant to Magical Conduction. Which, in the case of other simpler objects, would dissolve the object when a Mage uses its own Mana to perform Magical Conduction.

Manufacturing process

The construction process can vary from design to design. But the actual infusion of Mana from a Manafont is a delicate process. A Mage must find a Manafont and attempt to conduct its Mana into the prospective Mana Reserve. It requires the Mages full focus and concentration. The slightest distraction could cause a myriad of destructive incidents.
Case in point: Fourth Aeon, 1432 A.E. 18th of Illuvas. Court Wizard Geitric Hoise was attempting to create a Mana Reserve in order to cast a Fifth Degree Spell. He was distracted by a stray dog that had followed him to the Manafont. He lost concentration, and the air caught fire. Killing him, and the dog.

Mages need them to draw Mana from in order to perform Magic without the physical cost brought on by The Ravage.
